Does anyone know if we're allowed to send in more than 3 LORs?

When I applied to TUN I sent a letter package contained 5 LOR. Hope that helps.

and was told that adcom won't be meeting again until the second week of oct due to holidays 🙁

really should have faxed it in when i completed it two weeks ago

thats a month away.. wow. I submitted my stuff the 27th but they didnt find my letters until I called them on 9/1. I was hoping to hear back in the next week or so.. oh well... *keeping fingers crossed*.. I guess I'll have to be patient..

Don't stress. =) You will have your application reviewed plenty early enough.

The school is closed tomorrow for Yom Kippur and also, next Wed afternoon, all Thurs and all Friday for Sukkot. I believe they are closed the following Friday for Sukkot as well.

Same here. How are you preparing for the interview? I'm reading a book about job interviews to try and prepare for my interview but some of it isn't applicable to what we're going through.

Know your application, you're story, why you want to be a doctor, why DO and not MD, so pretty much just know yourself.

Then any question you might be asked you will be prepared for. The "what's wrong with healthcare?" questions are pretty ridiculous, because experts don't even know. You should just have a general idea as to what you think is wrong and how you think it could be fixed. It doesn't mean they are going out to implement your ideas, they just want to know that you are familiar with some of the struggles patients and physicians face on a daily basis.

If you have a difficult time with anxiety or vocalizing your ideas, practice with a friend, family member, or in front of a camcorder and record yourself so you can see where you went right and where you went wrong.

Booked my flights today. This interview is going to be absolutely BRUTAL. Work 7:30pm Monday to 7:30am Tuesday, flight at 10:30AM land at 11:45am, interview day at 1pm flight home at 8:30pm. Ridiculous!!!

Didn't intend on it. I scheduled the interview before the job offer and don't really want to reschedule it to another day for fear it will interfere with something else Plus I interviewed here last year so I know exactly what to expect. I also may cancel if I hear the word "accepted" from my AZCOM interview though so we'll see what happens. Plan on drinking LOTS of rockstar throughout the day and keeping myself awake haha I'm also going to sleep on the plane to and from. I'm sure I'll be tired enough to take a 1hr nap each way.

I've read so many of your posts on here and you're great at giving advice, so do you have any for the interview since you've already been there once 🙂 Any advice would be great! I'm getting real nervous for this one, mainly because it's the closest one to home and it's on the top of my list!

Honestly, it was 9 months ago so I dont remember too much about specifics. The interview was pretty standard though as far as my interview experience goes. It was fairly laid back, open file with 2 interviewers. They asked me some questions like why DO, why Touro, etc. They also asked about my grades, specifically about ones that weren't very good and about why the discrepancy between the grades and my MCAT score. They also asked my opinion on healthcare reform. I basically told them that I had read summaries of the healthcare bill but hadn't completely gone through it. I also gave them some opinions on it but tried to remain objective.

I had an interviewer who was the Biochemistry teacher as well as an academic advisor. Oscar is the admissions director. He is young and incredibly helpful. The building itself is located in basically a warehouse district which was kind of odd but the students there seemed generally happy about being there. There were alot of California kids at my interview, I think 5 of 12 or something like that from UCs. Hope that helps, not sure what I can really give advice on other than that. Go in relaxed, answer questions honestly and keep a positive attitude. I'm sure you'll be fine 👍

As for the question regarding interview questions, I was not asked about healthcare reform (which is funny b/c my interviewer was a public health prof.) or my grades. I was asked about specific activities I had been involved in (volunteering, research, etc.) and how they have made me more prepared for medicine. I was of course asked about why I'd like to be a doctor, and what I knew about OMM and why I want to be a D.O. I was asked about the one course withdrawal on my record (not a science class). They asked me some situational questions (give an example of a time when ...) and how I'd describe myself. I found all my questions to be quite fair. Don't forget to ask your interviewer questions at the end!

Hahaha I'm gunna hit the sportsbook in a little while.

I like it down here. I went to hooters for lunch inside the Sunset Station. Slot machines, blackjack tables, bars, all of this stuff everywhere.

I'm beginning to wonder if medical school + vegas really mixes well together. Even though I'm not a gambler at all, I can see certain... let us say... "types" of personalities...... not exactly making it out of here with a medical degree...

U guys will have a blast..I interviewed here last year and loved it. Just be nice and professional from the second u park...and hold the door open for the person walking in behind u...they might just be interviewing u..

The interview is very relaxed and u can prepare for it just from the interview feedback section alone.

Me too. I am renting a car. I think it will make it quite a bit easier. That way I can stay in Vegas, enjoy the area for a bit and still get to the interview. Plus, mine is an afternoon interview, so it would be brutal waiting for public transportation in the scalding Nevada heat. The car is pretty cheap too, so you should look into it.

There is not good public transportation here. And I'm from Phoenix, so that's saying something. I have never seen a city bus in Henderson, which is crazy since they're all over where I'm from. You basically need a car. There are cabs everywhere though?

2. I wrote see attached and included my CV in the application, which I was going to send anyway. There is no way to fit it in there. Plus it says you can attach extra pages.

3. I just put in 2 of my LORs, I sent 5 total

For #2 here, did you still fill out the employer name, dates, etc, and then just say see attached for the "responsibilities" section. Sorry I know you did this a while ago but I am a little concerned, as I don't want to send the wrong thing. I was thinking of attaching the CV I made for CCOM/AZCOM but that also includes non health-related employment (I listed it because it was all work I did while in school). Any info would be much appreciated!!! Thanks!!!

Oy I'm so excited! I have my interview this coming monday! My first one. One thing I'm particularly nervous about is saying "like" too much when I'm speaking. I use it as a crutch too much without even noticing. Hopefully I'll be able to refrain from saying it. This may be kind of silly, but when they ask you questions, are you supposed to answer in a sort of "conversational" manner in a way that you may speak with a co-worker or something more formal like you were giving a presentation? Of course I want to have the right balance of sounding intelligent but also with a little bit of personality, but I'm just not exactly sure what is the most appropriate?

Also, does anyone know if there a place to store your stuff at the interview? I was hoping to not have to go back to my hotel after and just go straight to the airport.

I think the best thing to do is use a similar tone as your interviewers. A couple of my interviews felt a lot more formal than Touro's did, so at those interview I was a little more formal. Definitely show some personality 🙂 Just be yourself, and if it is the right fit then hopefully it will work out! Touro was the one interview I went to that actually felt just like a conversation. It was very laidback (or at least my interviewers were).

You get delicious kosher pastrami flatbread sandwiches with stir fried veggies. I'm sure you could bring your own lunch, but don't come waltzing in with a double cheese burger or clam chowder.
