TUCOM Waitlisters!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I could be wrong ... but it could be the date that the final interviewees get notified of acceptance..... ?

For all those interested.....

TUCOM-MI has a program in which they selectively choose 40 potential candidates for acceptance to take part in LATE INTERVIEWS. Of these 40 candidates, 6 will be chosen for acceptance for the Class of 2010 on July 6th. The remaining interviewees not accepted to the Class of 2010 will have either chosen acceptance to the Class of 2011 or have been rejected/waitlisted. At the interview, DH strongly emphasized that those taking part in the Late Interview program will be accepted for either this year or next year depending on the individual interviewee's preference. However, with all that said, it still seemed that there was a 5% possibility to be outright rejected or even waitlisted. Now, for all of those who are waitlisted and concerned that these Late Interview spots will be taking away from the waitlist movement, that is not the case. There is still hope of a possible acceptance. Keep the prayers up!!!

So I guess the wait continues...

I should be out at a BBQ right now lighting fireworks. Instead, I am on studentdoctor tryin to figure out how I'm gonna get off this waitlist. Good times.

HAHAHA...so true, so true!! I hear ya...you may have the day off work, but there is no such thing as a day off from the waitlist. Hope we all hear some news soon. But in the meantime, have a great 4th!! 🙂

It's the 6th of July- good news anyone? Again, good luck to everyone who's waiting- I hope we hear something soon!

Well FYI to everyone, I have heard from Dr. Haight.

I was one of the late interviewees and I was accepted starting next fall, which was really not what I wanted.

I just found out that I got in for this year. Yay! 😀

Eck! You said it! Touro is currently my first pick because of other things (not just the school), and I am currently holding a spot in Western that I know many are looking for. They gave me this interview back in late March!!! So, they were pretty booked until then. I was also very shocked to hear that they interview all the way through June. So, I will be in limbo land until July 1. :scared:

this is pretty funny....i am accepted at touro-nv but im waitlisted at western and i want to go to western i wonder if we can just switch hahahah

Ok, I think i'm staring to lose HOPE!!...we only have two and a half more weeks to get off of the waitlist until classes begin! I don't know how slow/fast the waitlist if moving this year since those who have gotton off of the waitlist haven't been posting...but, it doesn't sound like a lot of activity. Does anyone have any new information to share? Anything helpful would be great! Does anyone know how many people they accept for early acceptance for next year?

Hello all,

reporting straigth from waitlist purgatory. I too have heard from Dr. Height, and in his e-mail he informed me he will not (most likely) be dipping into medium wait list this year. I am, of course, sitting on the medium list.

But, I am curious - I believe someone mentioned that there has been a case of TUCOM passing on the high ranked student and offering a spot to a medium list student? Is this correct?

Do you think there is a chance for medium listers this year?

Thanks!

Let me preface this post by saying that I in no way know what's going on with the waitlist this year or other years. That being said, I will offer a generic piece of advice.

Someone once said that one should hope for the best but prepare for the worst, and that couldn't be more true than in the medical school admissions game (and it really is just that). For those of you slogging around through waitlist hell, it would really behoove you to get at least your primary applications going for the next cycle(that is, unless you're holding up an acceptance somewhere else and just hoping that a spot will open up at Touro). Try to think of it from the perspective of a first-time (but very savvy) applicant: the end of July is lateish to be submitting a primary, and if you started today you KNOW that AACOMAS wouldn't send it out for another month or so, so you're looking at the end of August for a submission, and probably mid-to-late September for secondaries to arrive. The early applicants have already scheduled and been to some interviews at this point.

My point is, while it might seem financially wise for you to NOT spend the $$ on MORE applications while you're on the waitlist and literally a hair's breadth away from being a medical student, it would be even MORE costly to have to start from scratch and get all the way to this point again next year, only to have the same or similar outcome. At the very least, get your AACOMAS rolling if you haven't already. You'll have heard by then from Touro and will know whether or not to continue applying. You're giving yourselves a fighting chance if you start now, but shooting yourselves in the foot if you wait for the August 7th start date for classes to start the process. Do yourselves a favor and avoid being in this EXACT same spot next year. The single biggest advantage in the applications process is NOT lots of research or great extracurriculars or a 4.0; it's applying early (Meaning, you've received secondaries during August).

I really hope that everyone waiting for a spot gets one. Although I haven't started classes yet, I have had the privilege of sitting in on a summer session lecture by the chair of the OMM department along with some other "newbie" first years and some second years. If the students are any indication of the greatness of the school, then Touro has to be tops! If you don't get in this time, it's time to dig in deep and realize that not getting in is NOT a death sentence for your dreams; it's only a speed bump. Take it in stride, pick yourself up, and keep fighting.

That's good advice. It def. seems too late now to get in.

Does anybody know how stats for the early decision students? Specifically, how many people from each level (low, medium, high) get accepted early? That info may at least calm some nerves.

From what Dr. Haight said last year, he took almost all of the high waitlist last period. Every year is different, though.

hello everyone 🙂 i am also on the medium waitlist and i e-mailed dr. haight about sending in an additional letter of interest (i already sent lor's, updated transcripts, and a loi..the loi was sent before they made the decision to waitlist me). Anyways, i expressed that I wanted to focus my chances on the Early Acceptance since it would seem the mediums have a better shot there than acceptance this year. He said the Committee is doing a preliminary review this week and that i should know by the end of this week or early next week. So i assume we'd all know more about Early Accept by this time? good luck to everyone! 🙂

okay, sorry to write again, but i just realized that i also asked dr. haight about my ranking on the medium waitlist..so that may be what he was referring to with the preliminary review this week. I'm not exactly sure 😳

i was on he high waitlist last year and was not pulled. when i came back this year in January for my interview I met another individual that was also on the high waitlist and wasn't pulled from the list. this year i've been placed on the medium wait list.

my friend that currently attends has a classmate that was pulled off the medium waitlist last year w/o submitting any additional lor's or loi.

honestly, i don't know how the waitlist works.

just keep your head up, wait it out and see what happens.

everything happens for a reason and when the time comes, everything will fall into place on its own.

best of luck for everyone! :luck:

For the people who have friends that have gotten off the waitlist, do you know if TUCOM emails you to let you know or do you get a letter in the mail saying that you got in? I know some schools do it by email, so I was just wondering if anyone knows how TUCOM has done it.

so as i was leaving my house to go MCAT studying, i just checked the mail on the way out....oh my gosh I GOT IN!!! I couldnt believe that in my hands was a letter of acceptance for the Class of 2011!!!! 😀 😀 😀 . Touro was my only interview i had out of about 30 allopathic and osteopathic schools and i was even on the medium waitlist..i'm in tears right now cuz i feel like its been this upward climb for me and i finally made it. i wish all the best to everyone and i hope that i am proof that people can make their dreams come true if they put their minds and hearts too it! i definitely didnt have the best undergrad grades or even mcat (23 both times! 😡 ) entering a post-bacc program was the best thing for me to prove to myself that i do know what i'm doing 😳 best wishes to everyone no matter what your endeavors are!! 😉

congratualtions, fellow wolverine. I have the similar situation. Waitlisted at LECOM, only place that really considered me...I am waiting for their verdict.

Congratulations! Does anyone know how the waitlist really works? I'm on the first tier, and still havent heard anything. Any advice?

cbenedic:

CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 👍 👍 👍 👍

You get accepted and you don't have to take the stupid mcat again!!! 😛

haha wow i feel so loved with all the congratulations! 😛 Thanks everyone!

Congratulations to you! Sorry you won't be with us in a month, but we'll be sure to look you up when you get here, and I'll have lots of tips for you about the time you're looking to get a place to live, getting ready for classes, etc. Again, congratulations!

Congrats cbenedic! I'm in the same situation as vs94: first tier of high waitlist and have heard nothing yet.... It's apparent that high waitlist people don’t have a priority for the early decision, which for some reason is kinda the impression I got from Dr. Haight at the interview… could have just been wishful thinking on my part. 🙂 Any info on how this works would be wonderful and greatly appreciated!

Thanks! You know a couple months ago I specifically asked Dr. Haight whether HIGH, MEDIUM, LOW categories matter with Early Decision and he told me it does. He said that the comittee does take a higher percentage of HIGHS over MEDIUMS and higher %-age of MEDIUMS over LOWS...etc. so i would assume that being in the 1rst tier is a great place to be to get admitted this fall or early accepted for next year. hopefully you will hear something really soon! best wishes! 🙂

Just curious, does TUCOM accept or interview students from outside CA (northeast in particular)? I did not try CA DO schools, because a friend of mine at Berkeley said CA does not like outsiders. I kept my focus more on the Great Lakes area since my undergrad degree is from U-Michigan. (That's proabably how I got the interview with LECOM.)

Touro definately likes Umich-ers. Look on their website. It is one of the out of state feeder schools.

Good luck!

tucom for sure does not have a preference toward in-state (i'm out of state too). you have an equal chance whether your from california of from the east coast. I think many of their applicants are from California so it just seems like there is an in-state preference. I'm not too sure about Western. 😳 I too went to U of M..Go Blue! 🙂

OK, if I don't get the offer from LECOM this year, I should apply there for 2008 or later (I need to retake my MCATs).

Hey everybody ... I am from California and applied to Touro, which became then a high waitlist spot. Corrupt, Your friend is definitely right when he refers to the University of California System not liking outsiders. The average is high (in the mid 30's) for most of the UC's and they definitely look more favorably on in-state people. Anyway, I just want to add that I was in the first tier, high waitlist and received my acceptance letter on Friday from Dr. Haight. WHOO HOO! Good luck to everyone who may be waiting!!!

Wow, that's awesome!! Congrats!!!! Is it for Class 2010? I'm with UVAdoc...I'm holding out for everyone!! 🙂

Does anyone have a CLUE how many people are on this high waitlist?

I forgot to say, didn't I?..... kept everyone on pins and needles.... so very sorry .... it was an early accept into the class of 2011.... YAY for a year off!... 🙂

CONGRATS!!! to everyone who got in!! I was just wondering if anyone on the east coast has heard from TUCOM yet? Does anyone know typically how long mail takes from the west to east coast? As you can tell, i'm really anxious...but, who knows, i'm not even sure if I will be receiving a letter any time soon. Good luck to everyone who's still waiting!! 🙂

Hi Waitlisters!

Congrats to those of you who have been offered a seat. Just to fill everyone in on what happened for me--
I received a phone call and e-mail from Steve Davis (in the Admissions office) 2 weeks ago for a seat in this year's class. I had 24 hours to decide and I declined the offer with hopes that I would get a seat in next year's class. My acceptance letter for the Class of 2011 arrived last Thursday (I live in California, interviewed in February and was high wait-listed in the first tier). I'm so excited--sending in my deposit and response today! To those of you who will be in next year's class, I look forward to meeting you all. To those of you starting next week--congrats again and we'll be looking towards you for guidance once we arrive next August!

Thank you,
Stephanie

Hey Everyone! Ummmmm, anyone hear of anything? Maybe all the ones who have gotten in are out celebrating!...and not posting instead 🙂. Please send any news our way if you find out anything! 🙂

This isn't looking good anymore. Less than a week left. 🙁

Hi, I am from the East Coast and I really want to attend TUCOM-Cali. I was just curious what kind of stats the people who go accepted had, if you don't mind posting?
