Tufts and Housing

I'm so nervous about the whole $$$ situation! I'm gonna have to really change up mu lifestyle =( this sux... I did not get the financial aid package- how soon after you get your acceptance does it come?
During the interview they said FAid gives us 1800/mo for living
Do you guys really think we can live $1800/month??? Is it realistic to hope to find a 2bdrm apt with 1 other roommate for $1000/person/month?
I'm scared :scared:

Does anyone know what food costs are like?

I agree; 1800 should be manageable. If you move somewhat farther out you should beable to get a nice place for 1200-1400 with 2 bedrooms. The unlimited T pass would run you $59/month.

i dont know... i imagine food is the same as everywhere? do you mean restaurants? I live in Sf right now and prices are the same for sf and boston it looks like..
I know the T is amazing, but being as girl, and i know 1st year we might be in school till late late at night.. going home on a subway at night :scared:
I'm looking for a place 2-3 blocks away from school... a bit pricey & downtown & all but i feel that without knowing the city and being in school 8-6 every day + studying after will get exhausting & the last thing ill need is a commute.. Maybe when i get comfy with the area during my 2nd year and move to nicer cheaper place thats further?
i dont know what to do..

I was thinking that, too. A twenty minute commute might be relaxing, however, after a long, stressful day. I believe the redline is one of the safer ones. We should gather a list of apartments that are relatively close to Tufts.

I know the Metropolitan is near, but is wicked expensive.

Food? Depends if you're going to a restaurant vs Dangelos. Shouldn't be too bad...I believe there are councelors that get you setup on housing and whatnot when the time is right

My aunt makes everything herself and usually gets her stuff from Hay Market. I rarely eat IN Boston when I'm there, but judging from those times that I have if you're not going for high-end stuff you can usually find lunch for under ten dollars. I have a few friends who go to school in Boston now. I'll double check with them to be sure and get back to you guys.

Here's the first response I got on the food issue from one of my friends.

I'm on a full meal plan. I recall in the summer I spent maybe $30-45 a week on groceries, but that was kind of sparing. Buy fresh fruit/veggies at Haymarket for cheap. Lunch around here averages $10-14, dinner $13-20++ including tip, etc. for reasonable restaurants. Lunch takeout from a sandwichy place is usually $3-7 an item.

I'll let you guys know if I hear more from the other two Boston kids I asked.

a little off topic sorry but does any1 know the dress code for Tufts? I'm assuming no sneakers no jeans? Or super professional? It sucks to dress all up in heels for class every day.. i hate dressing up!!! (unless i go out =)

don't we wear scrubs? I hope so. I was really looking forward to not having to worry about clothes.

would also like to know if hats allowed

scrubs or business casual. no jeans, no hats, no open shoes, no short skirts, no shorts

But on my interview day, I saw some students bearing jeans. SO I am not really sure!

Business causal? seriously??
I am a jean lover and maybe wearing pants will make me not so comfortable, but I guess i'll get used to it if i have to.

Does anyone know what streets/areas are closed to Tufts? I mean by a walkable distance. I am also looking for an apartment that's close to Tufts so i don't have to do the 15-20 mins communte by the subway. Just like what you guys said, after a long and stressful day in the school, the least I want is communte.

Please give me some inputs on what streets are closed to Tufts so I can start looking for a place. I am not familiar w/ Boston at all so I don't even know where to start as I don't know how far some of the places (those that are posted on some of the real estate websites) are from Tufts.

Thanks.

They allow jeans if you are not in the clinic 1st or 2nd year. Or that's what the tour guide said... asked because I saw several people supporting jeans.
