Tufts Class of 2010

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
My stats are in my signature. I'm from Northern California, and I went to school at BYU-Idaho. I'm also a sculptor and have done lots of cummunity service. I'm 28, and have a pretty huge beer gut, and beautiful dancing leggs. I enjoy long walks on the beach, going to the movies, and reading books by the fire on long rainy da... Oh... oops, sorry that's probably a little more information than you wanted.

Nope not yet. I'm still looking around for a place that my wife can stand and that I'll be able to afford. We've seen some pretty nice places for around 1300 on the craigslist. Where's everyone else livin'? I'm looking at places in Malden and Everette.

First of all congrats for all of you who were accepted to Tufts!
I know this is out of topic, but I am a next cycle applicant and I wanted to ask you guys if you had any community college classes. I’ve heard different opinions about Tufts regarding the cc courses. Some people are saying they accept, some that they don’t.

you can take CC courses and still attend Tufts, but just make sure that all the prereqs you take (i.e. OChem, Gchem, Bio, etc.) are at a 4-yr. university since that is a Tufts requirement. i know a few people who were even invited to their interview but told there that they had to complete those courses at a university before they matriculate. hope this helps.

I took ONE prereq at a community college (Biology 1). I had called and raised my concerns about that since I had an interview coming up. They told me that they would not hold it against me since I had taken everything else at a 4 year university. It might vary from person to person so your best bet is to call them and ask. 🙂

Thank you guys!

Yeah I posted something about this on the Dental site and got nothing. I dunno where to live, but Malden and Everette are a bit far from school.

I think I might going to live in dorm for my freshman year at Tufts.

i'm thinking about that too, but does the dorm include food, or are we always going to have to eat out?

Malden and Everette are about 15 miles from Chinatown, where Tufts dental is. It'd probably take 20-25 minutes to drive, and I'm sure you'd also be able to take public transporation (train/bus.) But if you're single I think living in the city would be more fun. I vouch for Allston/Brighton. That's where I live and it's not so far from the school. It's near B.U., B.C., and Harvard, there are lots of bars and restaurants and a ton of college kids.

I think you can just take the green line to Boylston...since its about a block away from the Chinatown stop. And then just walk a few minutes to the school.

does anyone know if we can get the 415 deposit back if we decide not to live in the dorm later? or we decide to attand another school?

Tufts 2010 right here. Can't wait to meet everyone...congrats. See ya in Beantown.

Hey 2010ers.....actually, the South End is a great place to live if you are going to Tufts....the rents are not too bad for Boston and especially if you have a roommate. There are a ton of great places to live and eat and it is within walking distance to the dental school....malden and everett are pretty far when it comes to commuting. If you drive, there is always a ton of traffic going in and out of the city and if you take the T, count on a 30-45 min train ride. You are better off in the city....there are a ton of good real estate places that can help you find a great apartment for the right price. just keep that in mind....any questions, feel free to ask, as i have lived here in the city for a while. See you in the fall!

Hi, DMD 2010. Looking forward to meeting everyone!

~ I just found an apartment in the Back Bay area. It is a nice neighborhood, downtown, close to the orange and green lines and only a 5-10 minute walk to school. I went through a realty agency, which was awesome because I am an out-of-towner and the agent drove me around to different places he thought would work for me. He made it easy, no fee, and I found my apt in one day.

A couple of current TSDM students advised me to avoid the green line because it is slow and often crowded when there are games, etc. I heard Malden is ok, but it is much farther out of the city. Without a car that may be a pain at night...

Anyone moving from out-of-state? I am wondering what to do with my stuff since I have a September 1st lease in Boston and we have orientation starting August 29th. Best I have figured out so far is to just return home over Labor Day weekend and drive back with my things. Just throwing this out there in hope that anyone has suggestions....

how far are you? if it's not a long drive then that won't be too bad. if it is going to be a pain, u can always call and see if it is possible to move in a couple days early

Hey,
Can you give me the name/contact info of the agent that helped you out? I need to get my apartment search started ASAP.

Thanks!!! 😎

I've been accepted to Tufts this year. However, I took some classes (3 classes to be exact) at community college. They DIDN'T accept them. I have to go back to school for summer classes to retake these classes. GET THEM DONE AT A 4-YEAR SCHOOL.

I don't know about the rest of you but I am getting pretty excited about the start of school!!!

So my search for an apartment has begun. I saw in the student mailing about the Metropolitan which is really close to the school but also expensive. I know that it is near Chinatown and have heard conflicting stories about safety at night. I also heard that there will be a housing advisor that will contact us and help us find roommates. Are many of you planning on living alone or are interested in 2, 3, or 4 people sharing a place? Just trying to get an idea on how hard it would be to find other classmates as roommates.

Look forward to meeting all of you in the fall!!!
