I am working on finding the phone number to contact Tufts directly about this, but here is my question scenario:

I have my 4 rec letters locked down: 1 from my biochem prof, 1 from my orgo I & II prof (same prof), 1 from the dentist I shadow, and 1 from my ex-boss from when I worked in accounting (non-traditional here).

Anyway, apparently Tufts requires one letter from a biology prof and then another from chem/biochem/math/physics prof.

I only cultivated a relationship with my biochem and orgo profs, and I "could" reach back out to by old biology teacher (I got a B+ with him, so he may write me one) for a letter, but I would rather not.

Does anyone know if this will seriously impact my app at Tufts? I just don't know how adamant they are about the specific letter sources. Like I said, I am working to contact Tufts directly, but until then, I wanted to see if anyone of you fellow forum users had any knowledge about this.

I'm not sure if this is correct, but when I see that Tufts request a letter from a Bio professor I read that as ANY bio class. It isn't limited to General Biology. My letter was from my genetics/molecular genetics teacher and I assume this is considered my bio letter of rec. In your case it could be that biochem is considered bio (for me it is through the chem department), but I guess that would be a specific question for tufts. Did you ever take any other bio classes? Maybe reach out to those professors if Tufts tells you you need more. Good luck!

Lol working on finding the number? I think you need to work harder (617-636-6639).

Yeah I found it about 5 mins after posting this. They told me I need to get a letter from a professor in the actual bio department. Unfortunately they count biochem as one of the "second" science sources. Wish me luck!
