Maybe this might help with all the concern about stress levels....(I'm just a pre-dent, but my dad went to Tufts and I've heard a lot about it and got lots of info in the interview). Tufts is unique because they're one of few schools that really wants to get you out there and practicing the day after you graduate. NOTE: This is the reason why many don't specialize or attend GPRs!!! not because they don't place, but because they actually feel ready to go right into practice.

So, in a way, there DOES appear to be some differences in workload; Tufts students are in classes a few hours more than the majority of dental schools, they have a 4-year practice management curriculum (GREAT idea, since many dentists have to run their own practice and have no idea what to do!) and they try to make the program accelerated enough so that you can avoid the GPR. So kudos to Tufts students; I think you guys really are driven more than some other schools, but if you want to be practicing right when you get out, it is worth it!

I got a little nervous when I asked around 5 different students (none of them heard me ask to the others) what they do for fun and to relax, and every single one said "well, we study! There's really no time for that" At the other 4 schools where I asked the same question, the students would tell me about going out on the town, joining clubs, or which semesters let them have more free time than others...just my two cents!

My dentist here in Toronto went to Buffalo and when he asked which schools I'm applying to, he stopped me when I said Tufts and said it's a really good school. Buffalo seems to be another school that will allow you to practice after 4 years so I guess there's that mutual respect.

Not to burst any bubbles or anything, although Buffalo and Tufts are excellent programs, I would say that most students at most schools can go on to practice dentistry without doing GPR/AEGD right out of school. Speaking for BU, since I know some things about the school, 58% of students go on to private practice/associateship upon graduation, which exactly equals Tufts.

I'd bet that the majority of schools can boast such numbers.

It's true but, you have to consider the fact that a lot of people going into private practice after 4 years have connections to a practice, like a father, brother, uncle, aunt, etc. who is a dentist and who will hire him/her.

I just heard from Tufts by email like a couple of days ago.. they wanted me to reply stating that I will finish my Biochemistry requirement before I graduate in order for them to continue reviewing my application and I'm assuming offer me an interview. However, they sent me another email today asking me to withdraw my application if I have already been accepted to another dental school and/or if I am no longer interested in pursuing their school.

Does anyone know how much of their class has filled up already? and what are the chances of getting in having an interview this late?
Hey i got the same email. I have 2 sems. of biochem. I think this is a general letter to ALL tufts applicants asking them to w/draw if they've been accepted elsewhere and dont plan on attending or so they can figure out if they should interview you or not. so i wouldnt worry about the biochem part, get it done, but this letter is unrelated to the best of my knowledge.
good luck

Clinically speaking tufts is the best school in the nation. Thats not only my opinion but the opinon of many other dentists that i've talked to.

Its nice to be back after such a long time!

someone might have better info than I do. But, from what I understand, they don't get into the clinic much till the 3rd year. Apparently, the 2nd year there is the hardest.

Thats mostly correct. However, with our ICE program, 1st and 2nd year students do have some clinical experience, although its very limited. What my class has done so far in the clinic includes simple things from setting up and tearing down an operatory, to more challenging things such as perio probing and alginate impressions. In a few weeks we do inferior alveolar nerve blocks on each other, that should be fun!!!
