I want to start a online MBA program. Am I eligable for Tuition Assistance (TA)? Does my GME/training status affect my eligability for TA? Any idea how this works? who I'd have to contact? etc.

I'd appreciate any info you guys/gals have on this. Thanks.

Yes you are eligable. I seriously looked into the BU MBA program but due to deployments was unable to make the time committment. You need to talk to the eductation people on your base. Different services call this by different names. However you must agree to remain on AD for 2 years following the completion of your degree. This is why I was unable to comply with the program.

There is also the option of paying for it yourself just to complete it in the time you spend as a GMO. If you find yourself not deploying and have all that extra time on your hands this is a very good thing to look into.

Your GME/training status won't necessarily affect your TA eligibility, but you also have to get your command to sign off on your taking classes. So it would depend on how supportive your training program is about your extra-curricular habits. There was a surgery resident at Portsmouth who was training for triathalons, who was "encouraged" to cease and desist. He evenutally left.
