I have a question about how pharmacy tuition works. If I'm going to 2+4 route, is the first two years of pharmacy classified as undergraduate where I only pay tuition at the undergraduate rate? Or is the full 4 years, I have to pay the pharmacy school tuition at my school of choice?

I'm a little confused by your question. I'm going to assume you mean: how does tution work for the 2+4 path?

Well, the two years would be pre-reqs and you would pay the tuition of whatever institution you are attending, whether CC or 4-yr school (note that some pharm schools attach a stigma to pre-reqs from CC). From this point, you would apply to the professional portion of a 0-6 pharm program, at which point you would pay their tuition rates.

If you don't want to get a Bachelor's Degree, then you might as well try for a 0-6 program because you might not get your spot after your 2 yrs of pre-reqs.

Also, if you're looking for more flexibility (in case you end up wanting to get out of pharm), then getting a 4yr undergrad then doing a 4yr program isn't an awful route. I'm looking at doing a 4 yr undergrad and then a 3yr accelerated pharmD program.

Best of luck!

I don't want a Bachelor's degree. I wanted to do the 2+4 route. I'm sorry if my question confused you. I meant at some pharmacy schools, the first two years, you are still considered an undergraduate (P1 and P2) for the purpose of tuition, it's not until your 3rd and 4th year you have to pay the graduate pharmacy school rate. I was wondering if this is the norm. Are most schools like that? For example, the University of Buffalo considers P1 to be undergraduate. http://financialaid.buffalo.edu/graduate/pharmacyapplying.php

I think you're talking about the four year portion of the 2+4?

My university has it's own Pharmacy rate for all four years that is par with graduate level tuition costs. The pre-reqs are priced at the undergraduate rate.

If you've found a school that does something differently then I would assume tuition policies vary between institutions. While the U of Buffalo might consider P1 as undergrad, they could have a similar Pharmacy rate that applies to P1-4. You might have to do a bit of digging and find each school's tuition schedule.

Edit: I looked at your link a little bit and it seems UB considers P1s to be undergrad and charge their undergrad rate, then P2-4 moves up to their Pharm.D rate. I've read (I think at some point) about other schools that charge their Pharm.D rate despite considering P1s as undergrads.

This varies by schools. I've heard of some schools that consider the first 4 yrs as undergrad and the last 2 as grad, while at others it may be only the first 2 yrs considered as undergrad and the last 4 as grad. Check with the institution that you are interested in.
