Tulane ACP 2014-2015

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I got into the ACP as well!! Are any girls looking for roommates? Also, is there a Facebook group for our class yet?
Congrats!! I'm looking for a roommate, if you're willing/interested in living with a dog as well... Feel free to PM me. I don't know if there is a specific ACP FB group, but you should definitely try to join the Tulane class of 2018 FB group (I posted the link above) since there are people looking for housing there.

Congrats!! Were you accepted off the wait list or right away?

Any more movement on the waitlist yet?

not on my end, how about everyone else?

Are there any girls still looking for roommates? I joined the Tulane SoM facebook group to look there, but I thought I'd check here too. Feel free to PM me, I'd love someone to look for housing with!

Hey everyone, I just got accepted off the waitlist, but I'll probably decline because I also got into another program that explicitly guarantees admission. Best of luck to all of you!

I got in off the wait list today and will be attending !! First thing that's gone right in a while, can't wait! Kind of bummed it starts so early though !

That's awesome! Congratulations!

I'm also a little bummed about the start date. I literally get back from (an already planned) vacation a few days before I have to move down. Freaking me out!!

Haha yeah, I'm currently in Thailand and going to Japan after. I'll have 2 weeks with friends and family before I leave. Its going to be tough, my friends have been my close friends since middle school / high school !

Your trip sounds insanely cool though! It's definitely going to be a weird adjustment being so far away from friends and family for me as well.

Orientation is July 31st.

Congrats to everyone who was accepted! I highly recommend joining both the 2014-1015 ACP fb group and the class of 2018 fb group. The ACP group is nice for info just pertinent to ACP but there are a lot of good tidbits of info, such as reviews, that are posted to the fb for the whole class and you don't want to miss out on those.

Just got the call today, and I left a message saying I am accepting! They gave me 24 hours to decide if that helps anyone else waiting.

Hi guys,

I was accepted off the waitlist last week, but due to unfortunate circumstances, I have been granted a deferment for next year. If you were me, would you apply DO during this current cycle, or would you just take the ACP acceptance if I do not get accepted into an MD school? Any help would be great.

Also, I know orientation was this past week, but how have the vibes been regarding the program? Shannon informed me that 4 ACPers were not accepted into Tulane medical school last year, but she was unsure why. Does anyone have any information on this?

Thanks!!

You can most definitely apply to medical schools during your ACP year. I chose to only apply to Tulane and I believe most people in my cohort did the same. One applied to her home state institution and was subsequently accepted there, and chose to attend due to lower tuition costs.

I'm graduating from Tulane SOM in three weeks, and I have to say that attending ACP and later matriculating into the medical school was one of the most rewarding and enjoyable decisions of my life. While not without it's shortcomings, Tulane is a great school in a city that can't be beat.

Aside from that, ACP students historically have done well in medical school. In this year's match, we had two go into ortho, 4 EM, 3 ophtho, 1 anesthesia and 1 rad onc. We also get to know the faculty well (as TAs) and some have held leadership positions.

I recall wishing I had gotten off the waitlist and being envious of the T1s with whom I took Gross Anatomy during the Fall of my ACP year. I didn't want to be in limbo for another year but in retrospect, I would have done it exactly the same way it happened. It was an extra year, but it was more than worth it.

Good luck to all those applying, and feel free to ask any questions you may have. I'll do my best to respond promptly.
Hi, what do you teach. do you have to be TA's.
