Apologize if I've missed a current thread, but haven't been able to find one. Does anyone have current information about this program? Any current participants? The program looks good and the location is great. Wondering if the linkage to the medical school is still strong? Also wondering about the class size.

Thanks in advance.

Hi, @latetoshow, I just finished the ACP program and was going to make a group to answer any questions people had about the program and how it works.
Linkage is incredible: of the 18 students my year 16 were accepted to Tulane Medical. While nothing is a given, and they will stress that, the program is structured so that as long as you beat the average in anatomy and aren't rude or difficult to be around you'll more than likely be offered an interview.

Thanks! Your status is "medical student". Does that mean you are an M1 and did the program last year or are still in the program?
Do most people apply to the SOM while they are in the program? I know the ACP doesn't accept until early June. If not accepted to this, planning on taking a year off to improve app so wouldn't want to do the AMCAS app until accepted.
What did the 2 who were not accepted end up doing? Did they get accepted elsewhere? That linkage stat is great though.

I did anatomy and histology earlier this year, interviewed in February, and was accepted in March to start as an M1 in August.
I'm not sure what timeline most people used for their application, I know for me personally I ended up submitting my AMCAS general app in early July and then my Tulane secondary in September which would have been over a long weekend during anatomy, if I had to guess most of my fellow ACPers followed that more or less.
I know at least one of the two is going to an MD/MPH program elsewhere. Other than that I'm afraid I don't know. Really though, this program is a godsend if you're accepted. Like I said, you're given two tasks: beat the average and don't step on anyone's toes. If you do those two things you'll at the very least be offered an interview.

Thanks for your reply! Out of curiosity, did you apply to other schools or just Tulane. I know everyone is a reapplicant since one criteria is a waitlist letter. Will wait until early May to see how things go with the the two waitlists. Thanks again.

Also applying and in a very similar situation. So far great information in this new thread. Thanks to both!

I applied only to my state schools, Tulane, and any schools that had offered me interviews. So I basically went from about 30 schools to 6-7. I would recommend that you not do this program unless the prospect of going to TUSOM is something you can get behind since it's likely that will be the end result. If you're simply looking for a post bacc program to up your grades so you can re-apply to a place other than Tulane this program is not for you.

No - Tulane would be more than great. Applied this year but did not get an interview.

Thanks for your input.

I briefly looked at the application information and it says that we have to include a letter of intent with the essay. Is this letter of intent supposed to mean that if accepted to the program, we would have to choose tulane acp over another post bac program?

Another question though since you did apply to a few others - will they release your anatomy grade to other schools in the fall? The website states they will release grades after completion of the program in the spring.

My thoughts are similar to what you did - apply to very few schools in case Tulsne doesn't work out.

The letter of intent is about a one page essay saying why you're applying to post-bacc programs and then why this program in particular. You do not have to pledge to accept Tulane's offer in this letter, nor would they ever make you choose Tulane over other school acceptances, but the letter of intent should make it clear why you think this program is special (i.e. it's small and cohesive community, it's lack of internal competition, the opportunity to become a TA, the chance to compete against medical students, the chance to be in New Orleans and get to know Tulane, etc...)

You will get anatomy grades after each block exam and these notices will also tell you 1.) what the class average is and 2.) your grade so far. With that information you'll be able to update medical schools you're applying to. After the course you can request an unofficial transcript to be sent from the SCB department, so you don't have to wait until spring.

Thank you! On the ACP info page, it said a letter of intent to the program AND a statement of purpose so I was confused.

Yeah it's not the best wording out there, but they basically just want one piece of writing that says you intend to apply to the program and then have you explain why.

I will be turning down my acceptance to here since I already have an acceptance into medical school. Hope it goes to one of you on the wait list!

Wait, have they already started sending acceptances for ACP?

Does anyone know if we have to apply to Tulane through AMCAS if we are accepted into the ACP program in order to matriculate into Tulane next year? Likewise, is it recommended we apply to other medical schools concurrently while in the ACP program?

You have to apply through AAMCAS. You should apply elsewhere as well if you have a school you prefer over Tulane or if you are in the bottom 20% of the SMP class

I got accepted too! Is anybody looking for roommates for this fall?

What are the start and end dates for the program? When listing this on the AMCAS app, would you count this as "graduate"? The website says you not a graduate student, you will receive no graduate credit hours, you are not a medical student, you will receive no medical school credit hours.

Accepted! Looking at the housing/roommate situation.

Any previous ACPers out there?!? I have questions...

Anyone else placed on the alternate list?

I'm on the alternate list as well... anyone know what the historical success rate has been of ultimately gaining acceptance?
Looks like usually 8-12 people get off the wait list every year. Whether that's a high rate depends on how many people total are on the wait list and I'm not privy to that number unfortunately.

If you've been accepted to the program PM me your name and I will invite you to the facebook group last years ACP class is setting up for you all.

Anatomy goes from August to October and then Histology runs from October until March usually. Neuro, which is in April is optional. Technically as a part of this program you are an affiliate of the university and not a full student, but if there is no "other" option on the AMCAS app then grauduate is as accurate as you can be.

Sorry! Was away for awhile, yes just finished the program this year, shoot me all your questions!

As I mentioned above, I just finished the ACP program and will be attending Tulane this August and if you're accepted will be one of your anatomy TA's. If you've been accepted and are attending message me your contact info so I can add you to the Facebook group. Anyone with general questions feel free to ask here!

Do any students pursue significant outside projects at any point (work, research, etc...) or is that a bad idea? Also, is there any reason NOT to take Neuro in the Spring? Seems like you might as well if only to free up your T1 year a little bit.

Usually you're on lockdown for Anatomy, and I would definitely recommend this, you shouldn't have anything distracting you from that course. Once that is finished though many ACP students pursue things outside of histology. Some work, some find research jobs, some volunteer, it's really your own time as long as you don't forget about Histology. I actually opted not to take neuro in the spring as did about 1/2 of my class. It's taken as a stand alone course by first years and only lasts about 3-4 weeks so it's not very high pressure, and I decided that I would rather take the course closer to STEP 1 than farther away from it. Hope this helps.

How much are we going to be using the books that are listed as required? Also, does it matter if they are current editions? I already own a Grant's dissector and atlas but they are older editions.

Honestly, and this won't be hugely helpful, its entirely up to how you study best.

What I would NOT do is buy all your books before classes, because it might take you a day or two to sort out what you'll need t study. What you do NEED for sure is Grants which you will use every day in lab. Everything else (textbooks, atlases, flash cards) you can make decisions on within the first week without falling behind.

Congrats guys! How long do they give you to accept the offer?

Is anyone looking for housing/housemates? PM me please 🙂

Sorry I know this thread is fairly old, I just stumbled upon it now but was just wondering why you say it's not a good program to up your gpa? I'm interested in going to TUSOM eventually but wouldn't say it's the only school I'm interested in lol. Especially since im oos

TUSOM is private, so most ppl here are OOS, myself included. This is a pipeline program for Tulane, and there are stories of people holding on to admissions from other schools, deferring for a year, then declining Tulane. Why anyone would do that, I dunno. The goal for most ACPers now is to beat the avg, get into TUSOM. Given you can take 3 classes max in ACP, how much of a GPA boost can you expect to get? Also student status is gray area. We're not grad students, were not med students, were certificate students of the SCB department. Anyone who doesnt know what that means might write you off.

those who were waitlisted, would you mind revealing your stats? GPA, MCAT, etc.?
