Tulane interview advice!

I received an interview invitation to Tulane in 2 weeks and I'm planning on going to that interview. Supposedly, their entire interview session goes for 6 hours! (8:30-2:30). So far, the only interview I've had has lasted no more than 4 hours, and that alone seemed long. Does anyone know what to expect during an interview at Tulane?

yes, expect two very nice faculty interviews and one very easy going student interview..half hour duration for each..then expect a nice lunch and a pretty good tour of the facilities..for the interviews, they wanna see that you know about new orleans

That really isn't too long... Texas A&M goes from 7am - 5pm.... There was a lot of wasted time in the day though. I feel I could've been in and out in 3 hours.

The interviews are nothing to get stressed out about. Both my faculty interviewers were incredibly nice, as was my student interviewer. There is a fair amount of free time in which you are free to explore on your own, however, the student tour was very thorough. I really liked the school, every one I met seemed pretty enthusiastic about it, even the librarian who gave us all free pens as souveniers. They also have this really wierd room that contains deformed fetuses preserved in jars, I guess its one of the most complete collections in the country.😱

Its the pride of our anatomy department, I think its the only one like it still around, its kinda illegal but its a great tour stop.

question to those who drove to tulane. is there a parking garage to park your car at or is it street parking? also, how's the traffic in the morning? thanks.

Hey, not sure about parking because I interviewed in houston last year for tulane, but I live in nola so I can speak to the traffic. Traffic usually isn't too bad in the morning (if you're coming from within the city, I think the highway in from suburbia gets bad sometimes) . . . but. . . since katrina sometime trafic lights at major intersections start doing the blinking yellow/red thing which can make it rough . .. so give yourself some extra time just in case.

I worked in the SCB department during undergrad doing research, and at one point they were re-doing the main office and the secretary got moved into the fetus museum room . . . was so funny to go to her for sum mundane office issue and see her surrounded by fetuses in jars, must have been unnerving for her to work in there all day for a few weeks.

I think it sells alot of people on the school, it gives a clue as to what a cool atmosphere the med school is.

tulane has a parking garage, I just have no idea if they stamp you so its free or not. but street parking is a bad idea as the meter ladieds are quite ticket happy in new orleans.

i got into tulane not because of my numbers (if you made it to the interview part, they already know you have what it takes to do well academically) but because of my interview- honestly they want to seee that you can fit in the school and that you're a cool person to be around, someone they can rely on and hang out with for the next 4 years. You have to demonstrate that you'll fit into their family

I totally agree, once you get an interview make sure to be yourself and not try to to impress anyone overtly. Tulane is really unique in that the student interviewers carry as much or more weight than the professor interviews when it comes time for admissions. They want to know that the fellow students like you and want you there socially, not just academically. My best adivce is relax and enjoy yourself.
