Has anyone completed the MS in CMB at Tulane? (It's the one-year program). Anyone going there this fall? I have been admitted, and I'm wondering what you have experienced/heard about the program? What were the classes like? Dr. Grisbaum sounds like a great guy. Lemme know what you think.

Hello, I am a PhD candidate in Molecular and Cellular Biology and although I don't know anyone presently in that masters, I used to teach some of their labs. I am a downtown graduate student, meaning I'm on the medical school campus. My mentor is a virologist in the med school. The MCB students (like me) are downtown or everywhere and are more biomedically oriented. We can also work with MDs and med school professors. The CMB program is mostly paired with undergrad professors on tulane's main campus. They used to be the same program and now there's a bit of sticky history but none that really affects the students as far as I can see. My boyfriend just graduated from Tulane Med and one of his classmates was one of my MS students in the micro lab I taught a few years back. From as far as I can see, this program is established, many or most are premeds but not all and you'll probably be taking mostly undergrad advanced classes which could be good grade wise. I would look into this. In comparison, there's a Pharmacology masters downtown that is on the med schoolc campus but you'd be taking all grad classes and some classes with med students for better or for worse.

Hope that helps...I do know that many of those/my students did go on to med school after their MS...most are doctors now if I had to guess!

Chao,

Sarah
