I see no thread has been made for this year. I've recently been accepted to this program, along with UMDNJ, and am trying to decide between the two. Has anyone else applied here, any opinions or advice? I'm really having a difficult time making a decision. I may plan a visit to New Orleans soon. Will Tulane grant me a tour?

I was accepted to the Pharmacology program at Tulane, but ultimately joined the Anatomy Certification Program (ACP). I have a number of friends in this year's first-year class who completed the MS in Pharm and subsequently gained admission to Tulane, so it still works as a way to get into med school.

Visiting New Orleans is rarely a bad idea, especially if you're considering moving here for school. I'd be shocked if the Pharm program had a formal tour to offer you, but if you asked, they may be able to set you up with someone to show you around.

What was your opinion about the program, and the city as a whole? I like the fact that Tulane offers a small class size, and I especially like the fact that all the students seemed to hang out/study together (based on the old facebook groups, I got that impression). UMDNJ has a large class size, and looks to have no real sense of community.

Going to school in South Carolina was one of the best decisions I've ever made. I went there knowing no one, and ended up making some of the closest friends I've had.

My main concern about Tulane is that i'm in a cutthroat environment, and none of the students get along, I'll basically be by myself for a year in a city which I know nothing about.

I went through the Pharm program in 2008-2009.

The program worked for me, I gained an acceptance to tulane for fall '11. The program is going to help you if you need to address the problems concerning your GPA. If your mcat is still sub 30, no matter what youre going to need to get it at 30 or above, to be considered for tulane.

The program is not cutthroat whatsoever, in our class, kids would send out mass mails with sites or pdfs they found that would actually help alot on the upcoming exam. So you shouldnt worry about that, I made lots of close friends during the program.

Bump. Anyone going here next year? I'm looking for a roommate.

Bump bump. Anyone?

Bump. Oh well, guess this year will be a class of 1 🙂

Does anyone know if any kind of financial aid is available for this program?? It says on the website "There is no financial aid available from the department or university for the program. Information on other financial aid can be obtained from the university's Office of Financial Aid." So I assume that means no federal financial aid?

I was accepted a few weeks ago anyone looking for a roomate msg me please I would like to spend under 600 and don't mind 2 or 3 roomates in a nice place

Hey Guys,
I just got accepted to this program the other day, so I'm kind of scrambling to work out the details. I just talked to the financial aid adviser from the university today, and he said that you shouldn't have any problems getting federal financial aid for the program. If fact, he stated that you could actually begin taking classes and put your books on your tuition bill before the university fully prepared your financial aid package. So hopefully you don't have to worry about being able to prepay for the program. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone could me some advise about living in New Orleans?

Hey everyone,

I'm starting in this program soon as well. I still haven't found a place to stay so it's a bit of a scramble to say the least. If anyone is still looking for a roommate, PM me!

Hey all,

I took a visit down to New Orleans to see the area, and take a look around the school. The professors seem great, and it looks like there will be many opportunities to get involved with research and volunteer work. I'm definitely excited about attending Tulane.

I created a Facebook page so we can all begin networking.

Hey everyone,

So I recently accepted, and since I've been around Chicago all my life and had never visited New Orleans, I'm really excited to be doing this program. The only problems at the moment are that I'm looking for a place to live and looking for roommates. If anyone is interested, message me!

I also joined the facebook group, so I'll see you guys on there

Dont see a thread for the 2012-13 class so hopefully someone can get back to me here. Ive got 3.25 GPA, sGPA is a little lower. 30P mcat. good amount of ECs... spent two summers interning at a biotech, another summer as a paid research assistant at weill-cornell medical school in NYC. Got to serve as an undergrad TA twice: first for vertebrate anatomy lab, then lead discussion section for environmental studies class. Volunteered at two diff hospitals in emergency room, and GI surgery. Also coached a kids soccer team this past fall. Solid recs (one of my profs just got promoted to Dean at U of Florida). I just turned my app in last week. Thoughts on my chances?

Id say your chances are near about 100% with those stats and after this program you should be well prepared for medical school.

thanks for the confidence. hopefully you are right. Reading over the threads for the SMPs I am applying to, I am bit flabbergasted by the number of people in the 3.5-3.6 range with >30 mcats still applying to programs like these. Makes average folk like me who really need the program get nervous.

Hey guys!

I had a quick question about this program- does any of the medical pharmacology courses count toward your BCPM courses? Or does it just contribute to your overall post-bacc gpa. Thanks!

I am applying for the 2012-2013 class as well. I just got an emailing saying my application has been forwarded to the admissions committee. Now I just have to wait! Anybody know about how long it generally takes to hear back from the committee?

I applied in last week of March and heard back yesterday of my acceptance.

Anyone looking for a roommate? 🙂

I'm still waiting to hear back! I'm getting so anxious, plus graduation is around the corner. I hope to hear back before then.

Just got into the program. Gotta start looking for a roommate. Also how are the apartments near Tulane? Cheap? Expensive?

Just accepted this morning - totally stoked! Tulane was my top choice over VCU, Regis, U N Colorado, CSU-SB, EB, and SFSU. I have no experience with Nola, and need to relocate from the PNW down there by next month! I'm definitely looking for people to share an apartment or house with, cheaper is better.

Hey if any of you need any information about the program please feel free to message me. I also have several books/flashcards/notes/study guides that could probably help some of you out a lot. Send me a message guys 👍👍👍

I'm headed here for 2012-2013 🙂 I'm kinda late in the game, but still need to figure out housing . . . Anyone looking for a roommate?

Also- does anyone know if there is usually space at Deming Pavilion for the Pharmacology students, especially this late in the year? Any advice would be great!!

Ah. Can't believe it's over! It was a one of a kind type of a year and I'd be happy to answer any questions you guys have about the program or the area. It's the least I could do to pay back these forums for all the help they've given me.

First piece of advice. Don't live in Deming. Not under any circumstances. Just don't. If it's too late, I'm sorry.
