Turned down acceptances in order to get higher ranked school. Mistake?

Hello

I turned down all 3 of my acceptances because they were low ranked and i want to make sure that i go to a top ranked school. I have received interviews for 3 top 20 schools but I have been rejected from 2 and waitlisted at one. I am started to doubt my decisision but I am confident that I can improve my app in order to get into a T20 next year. Did i make a mistake? Has anyone else here does this? Please I need reassurance i cant get sleep now

2) by far, turning down an acceptance is the biggest mistake any premed can make

Really? If true, I doubt you’re going to get the reassurance you are seeking.

If you are being serious you need to re-evaluate your decisions. If you don’t want to become a doctor unless you attend a t20 there may be other underlying things you need to look at.

i can just reapply again with a better app so it will only take one more year. but i can get into a better school and better residency. It will take more time, yes, but i want to get it right.

I want to become a doctor but if I can become a better one while just sacrificing a year, I don't see why not take that path.

Many schools view reapplicants in a harsher light. You will have a very tough time getting into a t20 next year and explaining why you gave up acceptances. I believe in autonomy and I wish you well on your journey

I got admitted into a med school that offers a research program w/ stipend for MS0 and MS1 students. If I do this program before med school, can I include this research for residency application or will it be silly to do so since its "before med school"? Also, I want to try to transfer into the MSTP program, so I feel like this program will help me transfer, but to what extent will this do so? I kinda want to relax before I go all in med school and since the program ends only 3 days before school starts, I feel like I wont fully be fresh. Do you people think its worth it?

LOL i turned down that school soon after when i realized they weren't MSTP certified but yeah I feel dumb right now though. Its only a year though and I have a shot at getting a better school so I aint too nervous plus for MSTP they want gap year experience so thats a plus

If true, and that’s a big if, then you have made a terrible mistake and I would focus 100% of your energy on praying to every deity ever created to get off that single waitlist. There are a vanishingly small number of legitimate reasons for dropping out of a cycle and “I want to go to a T20” might actually be the absolute worst reason.

Lying on your hypothetical reapp would instantly terminate your medical career until the heat death of the universe.
