Shoots, I'm just saddened that Case turned me down. Received the letter in the mail today. I"m pretty sure there are others here who were turned down by Case. At least I'm not whining like some people (actually somebody) here.

And for those of you who got Case interviews, good luck with the remainder of the application process.

i feel your pain, i got the same letter today too. well good luck with rest of the schools.

I was actually put on "hold" at Case. I find this somewhat surprsing because I was given interviews at Marquette, Nova, and Temple around that same time. Does that seem odd to you? I'm still waiting to hear back from 6 other schools.

I just got rejected as well. I applied pretty late (apps completed by the end of October). it sucks but life goes on. Let's hope we get some love from other schools!

that sucks.im sorry to hear that they turned u down... i guess u can thank all of the cash paying foreigners for that one...case seems to pick a lot of those students, which in the end only ends up hurting our health care b/c we arent replacing the dentists were losing each year to retirement...

do you mean these students come here to get their degree then leave the country??

No problem!

I got rejected today from Case as well. I my application was sent out on August 3rd. I have a 3.43 and a 19 on my DAT. What the heck man. Who are the giving interviews to if its not us. Whats wrong with my application. I really feel like im honestly going to get rejected from Michigan, Boston, Tufts and Nova

I just got my rejection letter yesterday. They didn't reject me quite as fast as Loma Linda. I haven't heard anything from NOVA or Tufts. My friend has an interview scheduled with NOVA in December. I have been rejected by Loma Linda and Case now. Fortunately, I just got an interview with Oklahoma (i'm a resident). Anyway, keep your head up.

I am nervously awaiting the mail man...

I expect a similar situation as most of you all. Although my application was sent in early (like July) I re-took the DAT Sept. 20th, so I should be hearing soon I would think... If spots are really filled up like people on here say they are, it can't mean good news

Some universities that have med schools need to branch out and start dental schools. the competition is getting fierce!

yeah there are quite a few that do... it totally sucks for us since they are taking OUR spots in the classroom... all case sees is $$$$$$$$$$$$, they don't care one bit about what they are doing... until you take care of your own you cant take care of someone else!!!!

Case sucks!!!!! i have already interviewed there, and to be honest if asked, im not planning on going there... i don't really agree with the amount of cash paying foreigners they accept... or the amount of students they take from BYU... I think those two groups of students take up a large part of the student population... good luck gettting in if your not foreign or Mormon....

i would second that!!!! if ya don't believe it just ask anyone who goes there or has gone there.

sometimes the truth sucks

"I don't wanna go there" but I'll go to the interview.

If all they see is $$$, then why would it matter if they accept foreign students or american students? They both pay the same amount. And are BYU students not american or something? 🙄

utah doesn't have a dental school which is why you see so many people from utah applying at other schools.

Cash paying foreigners?! According to the "ADEA Official Guide to Dental Schools 2006-07" the only "foreigners " they accepted were from Canada. Seems that all these other "foreigners" that you speak of were either US citizens or permanent residents. Here is the list of states/countries from which applicants were accepted and the number of applicants accepted from each:

AZ: 3; CA: 5; CT: 1; ID: 8; IL: 3; KY: 1; NH: 1; NM: 1; NY: 1; NC: 1; ND: 1; OH: 13; OR: 3; TX: 2; UT: 16; VA: 3; WA: 4; WV: 1; WI: 1; Canada: 5; PRC: 1

As you can see, the Utahians (?) and the Canadians only take up 28% of the class. I don't understand what you're making a big fuss about -- are you looking for a school full of WASPs?? If you didn't like Case, why don't you just withdraw your application?

Is that the case?🙄

Case is such a case. Their reviewing process is in hyperspeed, and they end up filling their interviews really quickly. Pretty bad for late applicants.

u got way too much time on your hands to go and look up those stats...

Well, when a school is one of my top choices and I see someone spouting off stuff that Iknow is incorrect, I am driven to correct that person.

take the " " off foreigners and u'll get the idea.. and thanks for proving my point about UT... further more, a school of WASPs sounds a he!! of a lot better than what they go going on there....

Good, I hope the school doesn't get filled up w/ a bunch of whiners which is what SDN is becoming. phew 😎

Wow, I never knew Case accepted a lot more foreign students than US students.

I guess the foreign students are not offered financial aid, so it's a guarantee to Case dental school that the foreign students will pay the FULL tuition up front.

Hopefully that's not true.

At least I can see here that I'm not the only applicant with decent GPA and DAT scores who got turned down from this school.

For all you people mitching and boaning about Case, I didn't see you posting any of this negative stuff UNTIL THEY TURNED YOU DOWN!!! FYI, high GPA's and DAT scores around 19 or 20 are a dime a dozen these days. Try getting out and doing something other than studying and maybe some schools will give you a second look. Case Western doesn't just want to see numbers, they want to see that you're not a social ****** and can think of others. Also, if you applied anytime later than June 1, you shot yourself in the foot. Many schools start their app reviews a soon as they get a delivery from AADSAS - so don't cry about a school being too on top of things. True, Case starts interviews early, but they are currently booked through April. Translation: they interview A LOT of people, because numbers don't tell a school what kind of dentist you'll be. The numbers are simply the means of getting your foot in the door to show the admissions committee who you really are.

As a current student at Case SODM, I can tell you, yes, we have some foreigners, but most of the minorities are citizens or permanent residents. A lot of students from Utah and Idaho (Mormons) - Sure!!! That's because Case discovered many years ago that these states provide a high percentage of quality students. Utah has one of the highest high school grad rates and I believe THE highest rate of high school grads who attend college. So why wouldn't Case pull students from a state that places such a strong emphasis on education? As far as "stop taking up spots in our schools," last time I checked, Case is a private school and aren't obligated to take a certain amount of state residents or even U.S. citizens - they can accept whoever they want! I agree with the post that says SDNers are becoming a bunch of whiners. If you're not getting interviews or acceptances, it's YOUR own fault. Your file isn't strong enough or you applied too late or to the wrong schools! So don't rip on every school you get turned down from, it's not their fault you don't have what they're looking for!

He has a point.

I don't want to extend this thread into a thread about mormons are the best, we already fought about that. Or even that foriegners should leave. On top of that, I turned a new leaf, no more bitterness to fellow SDNers.

I do want to convey one point. I am sorry for all of those who have been rejected. I also received my first deferment or hold or whatever, from Boston.

The only thing we can do is help those who come after us to improve their chances, and help them learn from our trials. Please remember to pass all info on to your underclassmates. Info is power! The info to be passed on is to APPLY EARLY and study hard for the DAT. Not that anyone here hasn't, but lets do all we can to help others!

Good luck to all SDNer's, keep the faith :luck:

what are you talking about? how can you already have been accepted? were you accepted off the alternate list from last year, or have you just interviewed? 😕

First of all, who's to say I was only talking to you? There are hundreds of whiners sobbing all over this site. And second, why don't you get your story straight? The only school reserving spots before Dec. 1 are re-applicants to Case who were on the alternate list last year. Since you are not in this category according to your posts, you're just trying to put up a tough guy front in a weak attempt to console yourself. I hope to hell you don't come to Case. It's a great school and we don't need someone like you there ruining our credibility or easy-going atmosphere!

Not true at all 🙂 🙂 We have only 3 Canadians in our class. All students have to pay FULL tuition up front at the beginning of each semester with student loan or out-of-pocket money.

Whatever man... Private schools aren't bound by quotas; which allow them to take the BEST candidates possible. So what if they intend on going back to their home state/country after their education? Schools are businesses too, they invest a lot in you hoping that you will give back greatly in the form of donations following graduation. So all Case sees is $$$$$$??? Education is expensive! Those state of the art Dentsim chairs don't just fall out of the sky 🙄 . FYI, if you calculate the cost of living in Cleveland inc. tuition and expenses, it's comparable if not cheaper than attending as an out of state student at a state school.
