So I've recently acquired the opportunity to tutor a local 8th grader who's struggling with some of her math course work. I currently am an SI leader at school, I love the position and it's taught me a ton when it comes to teaching others, so I thought that tutoring would be rewarding as well. But the tutoring isn't done through any agency, and I'm volunteering my time to help this 14 year old. Since I'm volunteering, I thought that it would be a good EC to add to my others. What I'm wondering is who needs to validate this for me on my application, or is that not needed? Since I'm doing it myself and I reached out after a Facebook post, there's no one besides the girl's mom to provide that validation/reference. Do I need to have them sign something with hours on it?
Also, I'm a bit worried about my ECs:
-Worked 3+ years at 3 different hospitals doing switchboard work (at one hospital, this even included dispatching ambulances), inpatient registration work, a lot of ER registration work, insurance authorizations, and some unit secretary work.
-Volunteered 5 (so far, will grow a LOT this summer) hours in a kinesiology research lab with older adults.
-Worked 1 semester as a supplemental instruction leader for a human biology class.
After I write that out, I feel like it's not enough and that tutoring would make a great addition. I have 3 kids at home as well, so I feel like it's not bad for a mom of three. I also plan on starting physician shadowing this summer while taking classes.
Any input is appreciated.
Thanks!
