1. Get a plain white or light blue shirt instead.
2. Black is for funerals, business attire would be charcoal/navy/grey.
Is wearing black really that bad? I have like three black ones. I don't really want to buy a new one unless I really have to.

Formal wear for men is so much easier than for women. Get a suit that fit, most importantly. Blue or Grey is ideal, but if you don't own one it's not a huge deal. I'd stick with white or light blue shirt with an understated tie made to the proper length. Match the color of your belt, shoes, and watch (if leather band). Little details like what type of collar, tie knot, lapel size/shape don't mean much in the big scheme of things. Shave or keep a neatly trimmed beard or facial hair. Bonus points for mustaches. That's about all there is to it. Ultimately what you say and how you present yourself will be the most important factor.

Dress socks. Don't wear tube socks or ankle socks. Sounds obvious, yes? I've seen a good 1,000 interviewees and it happens too often. White ankle socks with dress shoes and suit pants is just gross.

If you really don't want to buy another shirt, the lavender shirt would be fine. But I would say get a nice "clean" white or light blue shirt. I think the most important thing for guys is probably the jacket fitting, and you can look this up on youtube or whatever. But if sleeve length, jacket length and the taper is on point you should look good. If I were you I would definitely buy a white or blue shirt though.

Don't forget to wear a pin with the American flag!

Don't get too hung up on what to wear as long as it follows the basic guidelines of interview attire. Just wear what makes you feel comfortable enough to let your interview skills and/or stats do all the work 🙂

Don't wear cologne, it distracts and also they may not be partial to the smell. When in doubt, white or a blue shirt and blue tie combo always works. A black suit is fine, but when they review your evaluation afterwards they'll remember that you wore a black suit like many others and they'll have a hard time putting a face to you. If you have a gray or navy suit even better but don't wear a pink pimp suit to stand out. Wear a tie that stands out (nice color/pattern, no crazy designs) if you plan on wearing a black suit so they'll be likely to remember you better.

I have pink/blue argyle socks, is that frowned upon? These are what mine look like HERE

I'll second the not wearing cologne. Some people have allergies to perfumes and scents like that, like someone I work with.
