Hi everyone,
I'll be starting pharmacy school in the fall. I was hoping to work part time while in school. Would I be able to start working as an intern once I'm in the program? Are there any Texas P1s working as interns?

yeah, weekends/nights. I'm just not sure what the actual process of becoming a intern is. Once I start P1, how do I become an intern? Are there any requirements that I need to meet in TX?

Would you volunteer your hours for a bit until a position is available?

Texas State Board of Pharmacy rules allow for an undergraduate student enrolled and having successfully completed 30 hours (all first year professional courses) towards a degree in pharmacy to be designated as a "student pharmacist-intern".

It's a good thing, in a way, that I'll have to wait till P2 to start working. Thanks Mike.

As a small piece of trivia: If you complete 30 hours of coursework in your first year but still fail a course, you won't be able to receive your pharmacist-intern license by virtue of not completing your first year.

But yes, to echo what TTUMike said, you have to 1.) Complete your first year of pharmacy school and 2.) Have a pharmacist-intern license before you can work as a pharmacist-intern. Chances are, you'll do the paperwork for your pharmacist-intern license during your second semester and so you'll be able to work as an intern starting the summer between your first and second year of pharmacy school.

Until then, you can only work as a technician.

I had visited the TxBoP, but was confused about the 30hrs form. Thank you for verifying and elaborating Garfield3d. SDN is awesome😍

As others have said, you must complete the P1 year with all passing grades to work as a student pharmacist intern in Texas.
