Hey guys I have a question about the Tylenol scholarship application. It asks for college information and GPA. What do you think I should put if I graduated from undergrad (currently in my gap year) and am accepted to med school for August? Do I put my undergrad and GPA or do I put my med school?

Any opinions? I e-mailed them but I doubt they'll get to me before the weekend.

Jk...they got back to me really fast.

Please submit the name of the institution you plan to attend next.

That's funny, I e-mailed them about this exact same thing. They said to put my undergrad GPA and put "graduate" for my status (since obv I technically have no status in medical school as of spring 2010 - and accepted applicant isn't an option).

um, I have a question. I am planning on 2 years of gap. I graduated college in 2009, and will be applying to med schools this summer for matriculation in 2011 fall. Am I eligible to apply right now??

I guess I am just confused by the eligibility requirement that says "Must have one or more years of school remaining" and the fact that I am not yet accepted into a med school (can I show proof of enrollment next year or some time in the future when I have one? 😀)

I applied for this as well...I think I stand a solid shot of getting it. I'm glad you posted this - I was wondering the exact same thing but couldn't find it in the FAQ, so I just put in what i figured was right (and I was indeed correct!).

Only a week til it's closed. I'd like to hear back.

Just wondering, what are you basing this off of (or just a all round good feeling?). I've been searching for profiles of past winners etc. and haven't managed to find anything =/

Well, I'm basing it off my resume, mostly.

Tylenol's a pharmaceutical company. I've got four years of solid basic science research including three paid pharmaceutics internships. I was president of a bunch of things. I'm going to a top 5 pharmacy school. My GPA isn't outstanding, but it's passable at a 3.3.

I think my research experience is going to help me out a lot, here, and all the on-campus awards and stuff.

Ahh gotcha. Very nice, can't beat that, haha <-- little to no pharmaceutical research background =(.

Oh well, time to work on my essay!

WoooooW! 😱 You are so good that I guess I should not even try to apply. +pity+:poke::help::bang::claps::clap::bow::corny::beat::diebanana:

So after reading this post, I am curious who is NOT going to apply?

(To make it clear, I am going to.)

 What are you so worked up about? He asked why I thought so and I answered. We'll find out, right??

You must be one of those pre-med 'gunners'...are you even accepted anywhere yet? Maybe you should actually make ANY accomplishment before judging other peoples' achievements.

So now that we're all applying for this scholarship, what are we supposed to put in the "experience description?" I mean there's like a tiny little slot with no room for a description... do we just put a title, like "Free Clinic Volunteer," with no elaboration? That doesn't seem right...

LOL yeah.

It makes me wonder how they sort through the applicants.

I think graduates can apply. Otherwise there would be no point for an option to select that you are a graduaute.

isn't it just for undergrads?

According to the website:

Must be a resident of the 50 United States, Puerto Rico or the District of Columbia

Must have completed at least one year of undergraduate or graduate course of study by the Spring of 2010 at an accredited two or four year college, university or vocational/technical school

Must be able to provide proof of enrollment to a public health/health education, med school, nursing and/or pharmacy degree program

Must have one or more years of school remaining

Past winners are not eligible to apply or win in 2010/2011

Employees of McNeil Consumer Healthcare Division of McNEIL-PPC, Inc., ISTS, Inc., their affiliates, subsidiaries, advertising and promotion agencies and the families of each are not eligible.

So med/grad students should be fine, though I notice that the only options for school choices are undergrad institutions.

Dude, get off the high horse.

So I guess we put the name of our undergrad and list as "graduate" since there really isn't an option for those accepted to schools but who have not matriculated yet....?

hey guys,

has anyone else logged into the application to see a read-only version of the application you submitted? for some reason, my first essay was cut off! are you guys seeing the same thing? i wonder if they only posted part of it so save room. i am worried some how my essay got partly deleted after submission.

There was a character limit to the essay. I did notice that it wasn't keeping count of the characters as you typed them. So, there's a chance you went over the limit and didn't notice and it cut the essay off.

Thanks for your reply. I did stay under the word limit. I triple checked, both in word and on the word counter in the application. Even if I did go over, I would think it would show the 500 words, not just 162 which shows up on my application. Do you see your full essay on the read-only version? I emailed them to ask, but no reply yet.

Just out of curiosity, why is a pharm student reading the pre-MD forums?

Thanks for the info Erma. Good luck!

I wonder what they look at... and if there's a GPA cut-off...

I was notified 5/27 also.

congrats everyone! i heard back 5/27 also =)

i had no qualms about posting this question because i assumed everyone knew about it already...come on aren't you guys supposed to be on top of your stuff?

Hey, can you guys who were semifinalists post your stats - like your gpa (cgpa and Sgpa) as well as if you go to a highly ranked school? Also, how would you rate your essays?

Thanks!

I would like to know as well if you guys are willing to post your stats.

My GPA is 4.0. My school is pretty highly ranked for a LAC, just okay up against universities. I think my essay was kinda average, really. I didn't polish it much at all. I doubt I'll make it past the semifinal round, honestly.

If anyone of the semi finalists here is willing to share their essays, could you PM me please? I didn't make semi-finalist this year and will be applying again next year - since you can't reapply for the Tylenol Scholarship anyway I won't be in competition =)

Anyone hear anything else yet? The website says decisions were to be made July 15th.
