Hello! I was fortunate to have been named a semifinalist in the Stanford Knight-Hennessy Scholars program, a scholarship that applies to all graduate applicants at Stanford. 7% of all applicants make it to this stage. Would this be an appropriate update for other medical schools (i.e. other T10s) or would this rub adcoms the wrong way? Thank you.

@LizzyM tagging here as I feel like you'd be best poised to answer this. Thanks!

Congratulations.

So you don't want to go to medical school?

Also the name drop???

Update if you actually get the scholarship
This would be way too late to have an impact, isn't the semifinalist status big enough of a deal? My question was more so about whether this would be appropriate given that this scholarship is for another med school but still has name recognition on a national level.

Scholarship is for graduate students at Stanford, so I would this presume you aren't interested in medical school. You can't take that money to medical school, right?
MD is included in this umbrella of graduate schools.

Eligibility

Looks like they could get the scholarship if they also enroll in an MD program (or MD-dual degree program) at Stanford. I think the decision making process between the two is separate

OP, FWIW, I'd maybe hesitate from mentioning this to other schools since it is tied to Stanford specifically. I view it the same as saying telling other schools I got a full ride scholarship to one of your competitors; if they know that's the case, why bother extending an interview knowing that if you get this, you're likely to take it?

Okay. So you are signaling to others that you may get a scholarship to Stanford. I agree I think the name drop could turn off other schools.

It's not a Rhodes or Churchill, but if you got one, it could raise questions because you may not want to start with the matriculating class. Not all schools give deferrals to such scholarship winners.

Thanks for the feedback, really insightful to hear it like this.

Agree with the above. We don't feel so bad about turning someone down or putting them on the waitlist when it looks like they are hitting the jackpot elsewhere. Takes away the sting for us given that we have to turn away (waitlist) close to half (or more) of those who interview.
