Types of EC's

What types of EC's have you done? I keep reading that they are important for the application process. But what are the best approaches to achieving good EC's on an application? Including anything and everything.

You must be an incoming ms1. Piece of advice: lighten up! The only EC's that count for anything are research, and maybe leadership positions if they are significant. Or you can actually get a life and enjoy your off hours.
