I guess different programs have different schedules. In my program, our interns work mostly in the county hospital and rotate through different services in our medical school. Call schedule is based on the specific service. MICU is q3.

Second year residents begin to take solo calls at our community hospital where it is unopposed. Mostly 9-5 with more ambulatory rotations unless you're on the FM inpatient service. But residents are oncall q4-5.

Third year residents mostly ambulatory so it's 9-5. Call 1-2 times per month (1 will be a weekend 24h call).

Life definitely gets better as time goes on....

So it all depends on your program....

Just my 0.02.

My call was similar as doctor grim. I did not have MICU q3. We were more outpatient oriented but my ICU call was integrated into the general call in my first year which was q4, second year Q6, third year 2 times per month and some months none at all.
