Which university is better, in your opinion, for someone interested in pursuing an MD/Ph.D program?

I'm interested in attaining my MD along with a Ph.D in Biomedical Engineering or Pharmacology, so that I can do translational research in medicine.

Oh, and please disregard any cost factors.

I strictly want to know about the strength of academics and medical research.

Thank you!

I'd regard UM and UF as basically equal. Neither of them is an MSTP, and they're the two best-known and most research-oriented medical schools in FL. My advice is to apply to both, and try to meet with potential PIs at your interviews. If it were me, I'd lean toward picking Miami just because I wouldn't want to live in a college town like Gainesville. But you're probably half my age, so that consideration may not apply to you.

Thanks for the informative response!

Yeah, I have time to decide, but I am torn between the two. I'm interested in research in the biomedical and basic sciences, but I do want my MD, and being a physician is my primary goal.

I like UF a bit more, but I just want to be sure that I won't be making a bad choice in regards to medical school or MD/Ph.D program...
