Due to the COVID 19 pandemic my school has decided to temporarily convert F grades to U grades, which are meant to not affect GPA. I have failed two classes (English 2, sociology) so on my transcript there are two U (unsatisfactory) grades. Will these have the same effect as having two Fs on the transcript? Because honestly this is demoralizing me and is making me reconsider doing pre med at all

I failed the classes because the rapid transition to remote learning was challenging for me and I found it difficult to focus while taking classes at home. Before the pandemic I had straight As for the first two semesters.

Your university will have a key for interpretation of grades and the "grade points" associated with each letter grade. It may be that the pass/fail (satisfactory/unsatisfactory) does not count in either the numerator nor the denominator when calculating GPA.

I suspect that if you continue to get good grades after this, that the U's will be treated as mere speedbumps
