U of A phx in trouble?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
There's been some current students on the school specific thread saying there's issues.

Its starting to pick up quite a bit of news here in az. I went to a premed day back in March and all they told us was they were getting a new dean(not the they would tell us if there was actual problems).

The new dean of Phx is the former director of the MD-PhD program in Tucson. Without exposing who I am in real life I know Dr. Ramos personally and he's a good person and will be great for Phx as a leader. The only question is if he will be there permanently

I really liked the campus and the curriculum they went over when i visited. Ill take your word for it an i hope he does. I still plan on applying. My thinking is it has more to do with Banner then U of A.

Don't quote me on this, but from my personal assessment of the situation it likely has something to with division of labour. Phx is a huge city with many hospitals and with Mayo moving in with their own medical schools it could have something to do with the accreditation powers that be worrying that students/residents won't be getting a full rotation experience. Phx has students from Creighton doing 3rd/4th year there as well. From what I read, there were questions about leadership with the merger and it could have something to do with that in terms of not having these people working at the VA/community clinics like normal. But honestly I'm far removed from UA-Phxs situation am I'm unsure on really how residency and 3rd/4th year work in terms of how much 'care' students provide so take this all with a grain of salt. I'm only an M1 but it's a good program and I have friends there

My friends who go there say the situation is getting too much press and that they haven't been affected by the senior leadership changes. Seems to me that a lot of this is centered around the dean moving to Texas and his core leadership team wanting to follow him.

Such a high turnover at that level of administration is concerning to the accreditors, but I suspect that the system's Chancellor (or other deity) will speed up the search process for a new leadership team. I wonder if I should send them a CV!
Goro you should!! AZ is hellacious in the summer but other than that its a nice outside for most of the year. Goro takes AZ:smuggrin:

Once they have new leadership will they still be under a warning status for a set time period? I also wonder if they will have to alter their agreement with Banner at all.

Current interim dean will likely keep the position and from speaking with him he earns to grow the class to ~120 students soon with possibility of MD/PhD.

Some of the leadership that was with Dean Flynn here actually followed him here. So to me it makes since that they would go with him when he moved. I'm a third year here and honestly I'm not feeling any affects of the changes. I'm sad I'm losing people that I loved being around but its going to be fine. We have caring people here....that includes Dean Ramos. I'm glad he's our Dean right now.
