Hey guys,

I check these threads everyday, and never have i heard a thing about these two schools...who has applied, interviewd, been rejected, or accepted? I am an illinois resident so i am dyeing to hear some stuff about these schools! If you ahve been rejected, mind sharing with me what you were working with, pm me if you feel more comfotrable. Also, if you were interviewd or accepted, what did you ahve for grades, extracurrics, and dats? Please let me know guys, cant wait to hear from you!😀 😀

I have an interview at SIU on Friday. I will let you know how my visit went.

So has anyone even applied to these schools?!?! Just kidding, but any info that anyone has would be greatly appreciated guys! Cant wait to hear baxck

jmac81,
I have applied to both of these schools. I had heard nothing from either one, except for the fact that my applications were in fact complete, so I called both schools last week. My application is still in the review process at both of these schools. Did you apply to UIC & SIU?

hey guys,
Recently a friend of mine got accepted to UIC. And he seems to be happy about it. 😀

jmac81,

Forgot that you wanted stats. This friend of mine had gotten a 21 on his DAT, and his GPA was around 2.7-2.8. I'm not sure about his extracurricular activities, to be honest, I don't think he was involved in anything. And he's a FL resident.

Hope this helps ya,

😀 😀 😀 😀

Thanks for all your data guys and good luck on you interview mr. Let me know how it goes...i didnt apply yet, i am applying this june. I just started doing my application, any suggestions for something to do that will help me stick out this summer...whether it be working as a dental assistant, etc.

Cant wait to hear back

Interesting about your friend with the low gpa getting into UIC. I was just at their website and for out of state students their requirements are quite strict - 3.5 and a 20 on the DAT minimum. I'd love to go there but my stats aren't the greatest either. i'm amazed that your friend got in.

myameena,

Yes it is interesting, but as you are aware..there are many more of such "interesting"situations mentioned in the "Under 3.0 club". Therefore, it should be an encouragement to keep on striving towards your goal. It's great to hear that there are schools that do not look only at "stats" and who are truly searching for individuals who are enthusiastic and have a desire to join the field.

What else did you friend have going on for him?!

well...not much really..other than some volunteering and shadowing hours at a dental office. Also, he applyed as a hispanic minority.

Hey mrfuturedmd-

How did your interview go last week at siu?

Yeah I didnt apply to either becuase they said you have to have something like a 3.7 to apply if you are out of state. Obvioulsy if you are black or hispanic they pretty much drop most requirements to let you in (sorry to make anyone mad, but it is true), becuase every school is trying to improve their minority recruitment.

As far as my interview at SIU, I wasn't impressed with what the school had to offer. One, the city of Alton is very small and has a quaker appeal to it. The dental school sits by itself with no surrounding areas of interests. Two, the students were no where to be found. A few were roaming around in labs but that's about it. It seemed like a very academic-strict school which could be a good thing if your only focus is academics (I asked about community involvement which is pretty much non-existent). Three, SIU is not a very diverse school. As a minority applicant, diversity ranks high on my list of school characteristics. SIU has a trend of admitting few blacks and each incoming class may have only one Black student. Thats a major turn-off. I'm attracted to a schools that are more well-rounded, diverse, and have more things to offer their students. SIU just doesnt seem to provide that. On the flip side, the students tend to perform really well on the Boards though. I think they ranked #3 or #7 last year. The Admissions people seemed nice and they pretty much all teach courses there.

If you're looking for a strict rigorous curriculum (90%academics and 10% social) then SIU is the place to be! If you want diversity and quick access to more entertaining things then SIU is not the place to be. But I must mention its about 20mins NE of St Louis--as if thats any better.

As of now, I'm focusing my attention on UIC's Dental School.

Any specific questions, let me know...

Have you interviewd at UIC yet dmd?
