U of MD

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I'm an EDP applicant and haven't heard from them yet about an interview date. They seem a little slow & disorganized when I've talked to them.

I just got a fat envelope from UMD. It contained my residency application--I forgot to sign it when I mailed it in the first time.

thats the way to impress them! 😛

You don't have to tell me...the worst part is, it's not the only school that it happened with.

I got my interview notice yesterday. 🙂 I'm guessing non-EDP applicants probably start getting them after all the EDP interviews are done, which should be the end of this month.

good luck, all....
🙂

bjolly and anyone else....i would love to hear your thoughts on MD. im gonna have to make a decision soon about going to md or a private school...the good and the bad about md would be appreciated. i know that the schedule at md is awesome (8-12, afternoons once a week).

UMD is a terrific school, as you already know. But it depends on what private school you're talking about. I think you're talking about Wake, correct? If you're an in-state resident, UMD is the no-brainer choice. It's cheaper, just as well, if not more, regarded as Wake, and it's clinical experience for med students is far superior than the tertiary care Wake provides.

Another really big plus is that a lot of UMD graduates match well into some uber competitive residencies at Hopkins right next door.

Were you verified before you were sent an app or do they send it based on prelim info received from AMCAS??

Jamaican MD,

Unfortunately, they won't send you their app until you're verified. In the mean time, think about what it means to you to be entering a profession. It's one of their essay questions.

Good luck!

the flash - how do md students do on the boards? also...whats the class schedule like...are you really done by 12, 4 days a week? and only 1 afternoon spent in clinics? how much clinical exposure do you get in the 1st/2nd years? hows the grading at md? thanks so much for your help!!

hi Premed2,

I have a friend who's a 2nd year at Md, and she says that you finish at 12 three days a week the first year. You have Intro to Clinical Practice one day, and a small group another day, and are finished by about 2-2:30 those days. 2nd year schedule is similar. I spent a day there last week and got to meet quite a few students and several professors. The students seemed happy, atmosphere was cooperative, not cutthroat at all, and the profs I met were very nice. I agree with TheFlash, between UMd as an instater, and Wake, I'd definitely take UMd.

JamaicanMd, my interview letter said something about them offering interviews to people before they're verified, because AMCAS is taking so long this year.
