Hello Everyone!
I have already posted in the "What are my chances?" section. I am a third year UofT student who has taken off a semester in the fall, due to some family issues. However, during this time I have shadowed two doctors and worked in a lab, changing my perspective of medicine all together. I was previously gearing myself towards vet med, however after this past semester my interest has shifted towards medicine. My dilemma is this: I have been advised to take next semester off in order to be included in the UofT weighting formula (requires 5.0 credits a year-full course load Sept-April). More specifically I will lose the privelege of dropping some of lower marks. However, I am not sure if this is all together true, and if I were to take next semester would I be considered third year next year in the eyes of the UofT admissions committee. I do have some research opportunities lined up for next semester, but am currently debating whether or not to pursue them (although they seem to be promising and may result in publications).
UofT med is truly my dream end-destination. I am a very hard-working student and have maintained a 4.0 GPA to date, I have heard that this "dilemma" can be viewed as bitter-sweet. I can take pre-reqs without their grades being included in my GPA.
Phew! Wow that was a mouthful. Allow me to apologize for my rambling but this is something I find very troubling if it truly will negatively influence my chances of admission at UofT med.
Furthermore, if anyone can suggest anything I can do in order to increase my chances of admissions to U of T, specifically, it would be greatly apprecaited!
Cheers!
