Are these programs affiliated with their MD counterparts? I'm referring to
PCOM/Albert Einstein --> Yeshiva U/Albert Einstein (In NYC)
U Pitt DO --> U Pitt MD

U of Pitt has no affiliation with any DO program. Is there some website where you saw this?

In fact all U of Pitt rotations are only on elective basis and done in 4th year.

Hey gor4sugry - I actually saw this on the opportunities.osteopathic.org website, if you search the residency programs in PA, you will see what I'm talking about, though I don't remember the exact search I did back when I originally saw it. Also, I remember seeing it on the U Pitt website at some point, but don't quote me on that because I don't remember where.

Here is the residency search site, if you have not come across it before:

http://www.opportunities.osteopathi...essionid=f03030e5159014d494e748164525331d5e4f

If this doesnt take you directly to the PA search, then just click on basic search and look for residency programs in PA.

A. Einstein is dual accredited for EM, DO/MD... not sure about other specialties though

Are you talking about the UPMC Horizon programs? They aren't in Pittsburgh. They are affiliated with UPMC but it is not the same thing as the MD UPMC programs (which I think are at UPMC Presbyterian).

It sounds like it is a satellite program. Satellite programs are rarely as good as their counterparts.

As I remember, UPMC Horizon sometimes sends its surgery residents to UPMC Mercy, but that may be not the case anymore. UPMC Horizon is 1 hour outside of Pittsburgh.

There is a dually accredited family med program in Forbes Regional Hospital (part of WestPenn Allegheny system)

I don't know if you are saying this means much or very little.

St Agnes' IM program in Baltimore sends its residents to Hopkins to do a few rotations. St Agnes is still a crappy program. Sending residents to a big program usually doesn't mean much.

The Albert Einstein affiliated with PCOM is in North Philly.

The Albert Einstein affiliated with Yeshiva U is in the Bronx.

They are not related in any way.

Yeah, I know they are in different locations - as are several schools, like Touro NV and Touro NY, but they are the same schools. I'm wondering if there is any affiliation b/w the two because they seem to have similar rounding hospitals. You know for sure that they are not affiliated? Or you are just saying so based on their locations?

That's awesome - because I think I might want to do EM! Too early in the game, though.

Oh, gotcha - thanks for clarifying!

Yes, I'm 100% sure that they are not affiliated in any way. I rotated at the Albert Einstein in Philly as an MS4.

Furthermore, the "Albert Einstein" affiliated with Yeshiva University is "Albert Einstein College of Medicine." There is no "Albert Einstein Medical Center" affiliated with Yeshiva University or Albert Einstein College of Medicine; their main affiliated academic hospital is Montefiore Medical Center.

So in summary:

PCOM (school) = Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia (hospital)

Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva (school) = Montefiore Medical Center in Bronx (hospital).

Einstein the medical school has zero affiliation with Einstein the hospital.

The problem is that "affiliate" is used loosely in most places. As people mentioned above, some places have no real hard connection, while others are feeder schools.
