To preface, on the waitlist at ASU, and I'm trying to decide if I should send a letter of intent and continue to hope or start preparing for UA Phx. With a class size of 36, and the fact it is a new school, I believe there may be a decent amount of movement. I even know a few who got into ASU that aren't going to be taking the A.

UA Phx
Pros
  • Know students who will be M2 next year
  • Longer established
  • Name recognition
  • Most days don't have to be on campus. Very zoom/asynchronous friendly
Cons
  • With ASU creating med school, losing all HonorHealth affiliates.
  • Tuition 40 k

ASU
Pros
  • Student housing
  • I was a student for undergrad here and loved everything about the school. The president is fantastic and I don't see this as a typical "new" medical school with a bunch of risks.
  • Obtain a master's in engineering within the 4 years
  • Class size of 36.
  • All students get at least a half tuition scholarship, for in state that is 20k
  • Interview day was very moving, all the faculty seemed very invested in student success.
  • I enjoy math and would like working on engineering projects
  • I think it would be cool to be a part of something new
Cons
  • New school, still uncertainties, could be disorganized, etc.
  • Not all buildings/classes are set up
  • No students to lean on or already made anki decks
In summary, I am just unsure if the potential gains at the newer school outweigh the clear risks.
