anyone knowledgeable of uab? how hard it is for a nonresident to gain admittance?

I checked into UAB before I went through the application cycle. At the time they had an absolute minimum requirement of 30 MCAT and 3.5 GPA for out of staters, no exceptions.

I will be starting my second year at uab in about a month. We have many out of state residents that are in our class. So getting in from out of state is definetely a possibility. I am not sure about the minimum GPA/MCAT requirement but I think they are set in stone. Sorry! I think that out-of-state residents are eligible for in- state tuition during their second year. In-state tuition is dirt cheap.

UAB has just completed a multi-million dollar addition on its medical school teaching facilites. The new half of Volker Hall now dominates just about everthing I saw on the interview trail hands down (as far as aesthetics are concerned).

In addition, the new ER/OR/clinical facilities will be finished next summer. The ER is going to be the size of a couple of football fields!!! I would definitely encourage all out of staters to give UAB a shot. It is a wonderfu place to learn/train and I am very happy I chose to go here.
