Last forum was so helpful, I have further narrowed down my options. My lifetime career goal is to practice medicine. Someone suggested DO school, and i researched it, and I see DO school is probably the best option for me now. Back story: Graduated in may 2013, saved 1500 application fee, paid it to enter fall 2014 UAG mexico. However I have been getting more push back from the people I know due to safety concerns likely hood of getting a residency concerns. Both valid, however, I did my research on UAG and i saw it as my best option for an MD without loosing too much time. However with a DO I can stay in the states, increase my chances of matching, and continue with my goal of being an oncologist. Is a DO starting in 2015 better than UAG MD starting in one month? i I have done my own research on the DO and DO schools, but I still like intelligent input. caribbean option has been scrapped. Other option on the table is staying in the US, taking the Mcat again in the spring of 2015 (new one) and applying to osteopathic or allopathic schools depending on how I do? Tittles do not matter to me. My goal is to practice medicine.

Between an American and International/Foreign medical school, regardless of philosophy, choose American.

With the recent merger of residency accreditation, FMGs and IMGs are only going to feel a stronger pinch. As for retaking the MCAT, only you know if you have the potential to increase your score.

All you can do is see how many students match to the US from Mexico and see if it's worth the risk. Also, see if there are any requirements such as practicing in Mexico before you can come back. I do know a few doctors that did medical school in Mexico but they have been practicing for a long time so I'm sure things are different now.

The main thing I see is risk (can't tell you if it's a big risk or not) not matching in the US or take safer route and miss out on a years worth of salary due to reapplying. Also, remember that different parts of Mexico have different dialects of spanish. When I've visited cousins, it can get tricky understanding every word they say.

No question of it--do an American school over a foreign school.

Did research with a graduate from a Mexican school. She was having so many issues matching and wasn't able to. Think she's still just doing research. She was a Mexican national though.

Her word of advice to me was to make SURE I attended a US school.

I you have the GPA and you think you can score a 26+ MCAT, you would be insane to choose UAG over DO even for a 2018 spot at a DO school...

@Jumpstartmy5HT ... The instruction at UAG is in English... I was told by a friend who is a current student there that half of his class is from PR... They don't put too much emphasis on MCAT and people can get in with less than 18...

I am confident i would raise it.

Okay, assuming you're fluent in Spanish, why didn't you apply to the LCME-accredited schools in PR? That would've been a better option than going to Mexico...
I am not fluent in spanish. I just choose it because of closeness to my location: houston and my stats gpa:3.5 and mcat 26.

Well articulated. lol
Articulation isn't required for this answer. Going to medical school in Mexico instead of the US would be the dumbest thing you ever did in your entire life. It would be so stupid that its effects would echo through your family for generations. Your great-great-grandchildren would still be reeling from how idiotic of a move you made.

lol. You made me laugh at work. Okay. So it is now down to DO school and taking mcat again. Thank you.

Are you being held against your will? Blink once for yes.
