UBC Pre-pharmacy 2010!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Anyone want to make a MMI practice group?

I'm thinking about this too, actually! Hmm... but how can we practice if the questions in the MMI are meant to be "surprising"?

Would anyone like to share their ideas on how to prep for the interview? Thanks a bunch! 🙂

Yes... LET THE COUNTDOWN BEGIN!

You guys might want to look into Interview Tutoring theres some ads posted up around UBC.

is there anywhere we can see stats of past accepted students to UBC, i.e GPA, PCAT, EC's, etc

I don't think there's a way... I think that's a little bit too personal to be handed out to random people...

Thanks a lot Chicolate! I paid my summer tuition already so I can't really do much about it now. I've registered for both Chem 233 and 235. I really hope I'm not making a mistake. 🙂 thanks again!

aww, no problem! Best of luck with that! 🙂

woot! 2 more weeks and interview invites come out!:xf:

Although the notification stated that invites would be posted the first week of June.. I guarantee you they will send out the notifications on Friday June 4th...because looking at past threads it seems like the release results till the last minute.

So its more like 3 weeks till we find out😀

i GOT THE INTERVIEW!!!!!!!!!! WOOT TIME TO PREPARE!!!!👍👍👍😀😀😀:laugh::laugh::laugh:

I know! For a sec there I totally thought they were pulling some kind of evil prank! Congrats everyone! Almost there! 😛

I got mine as well today. Congrats to all of you who also got interview invitations. Wishing you all well on the MMI.

Cheers 👍

i got an interview invite! yay

question to those who know cause my friend didnt get an email and she's really disappointed 🙁

1) Are rejection e-mails sent out?
2) Is the offer (all of them) sent out at once or in multiple steps? Last yr I heard interviews were sent out in early June.

3) How many are offered interviews?

Thanks guys

i tried it with the person giving the interview before I went for my U of T interview.

dont do it. It was the biggest waste of $150 I have ever had in my life.
I should have upgraded my suit if anything.

It was some chinese guy with a very heavy accent reading off questions that could be made by anyone.

I swear, I could call myself the Interview Tutor and do so much better than that guy. Wow.

I got an interview!!! I am so excited. I wasn't expecting to find out so early much less get one at all!!!😀

hey mdubs do you know if offers are sent out in patches or is it all at once? My friend is dying to know cause she didnt get a rejection or anything 🙁 and i want to tell her whats going on ASAP

^ Based on the people who were on SDN for last year's cycle, most of us received invites at around the same time, so I can't say for sure. She could be on the borderline for getting an interview (the committee deciding between the last few people to invite) or it could mean rejection (but not sent out yet). 🙁 Or I could be completely wrong and there could be a second round of invites! (Sorry if this doesn't help - I'm not sure at all to be honest).

Actually I tried that dude myself too last year. He is seriously HORRIBLE and did not give a **** about helping you, the [email protected](?) don't try this one guys.

But my friend tried this other company that has come up this year and she said they were really good, REALLY helpful and was cheaper than the yahoo email ppl. So I would suggest trying these other people.

^ what was the stats of your friend? I think you are able to predict whether or not you will get an interview based on the range UBC gives on the official site.

no idea about her grades, but i think her pcat is lower than 70 🙁
i have crappy marks (think 78% or so) but I have 90 PCAT and I got an interview

Yah I'm about the same too 78% but only 85 PCAT

Goodluck to everybody getting an interview. To those who didn't, consider it one full year to really make sure this is what you want in life and improve that application so they can't not take you next year!

As for the interview, I can't give any advice regarding it as I'm involved in the process but I hope everybody does their best and looking forward to seeing the future crop of pharmacists.

hey ryan do you know if
1) rejection emails are sent out
2) whether there are multiple rounds of interview offers

i got an interview, but my friend is waiting for one. Thanks

Im pretty sure rejection letters are sent out, since I got one. It is such a disappointment to not get an interview because I wanted it sooooo badly. I attained an 79.6% for prereq courses and 86 pcat composite. I also have tons of ECs and volunteer experience(pharmacy related). Does anyone know the stats for OOP applicants that do get admitted? thnx

Hey guys, congrats on getting an interview. I'm just wondering though, I'm kind of surprised they got out offers so quickly and yet they are only giving us 3 days to reply....technically aren't they still taking in final transcripts from applicants? And if thats so, what exactly is the deadline to send in final transcripts and would that mean that offers of interview are still being sent out during the course of the next couple of weeks?

Basically, if you didn't get an e-mail from them at all, be it acceptance or rejection, you're still in the running for an interview. They are a professional institution and they will make sure you are informed of your application status whether you are invited to an interview or not. So if you haven't gotten an e-mail from them yet (and if you received an e-mail from them previously, then they obviously have the correct address), your application is still pending most likely. Just be patient 🙂. Give them at least another day before you start panicking.
As for the lack of time to reply.. technically, all you're doing is just telling them which day you want the interview - it shouldn't really take that much effort in my opinion.

I'm OOP and I got an interview invite today. I got an 87 PCAT, but my GPA is just under 3.3... my rough calculation of the UBC conversion would put me between 70-75% (or maybe it worked out higher?) so I don't know what to tell you. I know that doesn't really help but it shows that the selection process is definitely not as straightforward as it seems.

no way u didnt get admitted. you either had ur reference insult u secretly or UBC made a mistake. your gpa and pcat gives u enough to get at least an interview

I really thought that I would get an interview as well. I emailed Margaret and hopefully she can give me her input. I dont think my references would insult me (but if they did - WOW 😱). I highly doubt that UBC would make a mistake. I honestly feel like crying right now because I put in tremendous effort and hard work into my application, and none of it paid off.

how many reference letters do you send in with an application and who are the people that we choose to be the references

ohhhhh sorry, if you are an OOP, it really depends i think. I thought you were a BC student. There is no way in the world you cant get an interview with that stat if you lived in BC. Ouch 🙁 sorry to hear that.

I'm not sure wut their contact is but u can look for ads around ubc
apparently they're also a tutoring company?

apparently, but one guy pretends to be the secretary, and bluffs so that it seems like a lot of people are working for the "company"
they are not "supposed" to give any personal information out

i swear, once i get into pharm, i am opening my own company up. maybe i could earn some tuition money.

but i am still sure a lot of people will try this at least once regardless of how much i say about the company.

I made the interviews too. I am super nervous about what kinds of questions we might be asked

In response to the above I'm an OOP too and my overall academic average was only about 77% thanks to two particular courses lol. My PCAT score was about 72 I think. I wonder how many OOP students got interviews?

Congraduation every one,,,
Random user :What are your two particular courses????? your overall avrage does not count, they only look at the pre-req courses

Prokaryote biology and physics, both pre-requisites. The grades were still above the admissions average, just below my other marks. I have just finished my first year, and the ten pre-req courses were about all i could manage. I took them at UBCO, so perhaps that gave me an edge, even though I technically reside out of province

Does anyone know how many people they're interviewing this year? Since the MMI is supposed to allow more people to be interviewed at once, I wonder if they've increased the interview pool (usually it's around 200-300 I think). But it seems... over the course of 4 days to interview 300 people is a lot? Especially when each round of interviews is over 1.5 hrs long... someone do the math.

hey guys congrats to everyone who got invited for an interview!
how are you guys planning on prepping for it? i see that some of you are planning to set up a practice session? would you like to send me information about it? 🙂

I got an interview as well!, i'm pumped for this new interview style wooooooooo lol

I am guessing/hoping that they haven't increased the interview pool this year because it is a practice round for when the number of seats increases for Fall 2011. I was under the impression that 300 was their usual number, but it's hard to know for sure.

What sort of questions do you think they will ask us in the interview? If it's an hour and a half of actual interview its going to be more then what are your strengths and why do you want to be a pharmacist lol
