It's really really cold and snowy in Buffalo right now, but not as bad as it is in Oswego, NY. It also got really sunny today and the sky is clear! If I hadn't just returned from working all night, I'd go snowboarding. The powder looks great!

I just got back from Keystone where I went skiing for the first time. I love it.

Just makes me want to get in to UB even more so I can sneak out and go skiing after tests... *crosses fingers*

Skiing/Boarding and UB..... ahhh it's a great mix. See, there's this club designed mostly for the undergrads "Schussmeisters," which is one of the largest ski clubs in America. http://www.schussmeisters.com/

So you pay $120 as a student before sometime in October, and then get free lift tickets for the whole season. There's a schedule, and it applies to a different mountain every day of the week. (see calendar on their website). There's also a free bus to and from the mountain that stops at north and south campuses .... although I've never taken it. When I was a member a few years ago we would just drive to whichever mountain was the UB mountain of the day.

Anyway, if you go three times, you've paid for your membership!

If you're a ski/board type of person, it's a mad perk.

That is a nice deal. I am used to bigger mountains here in the northeast (I am going to Killington VT this weekend) but I've skied Holiday Valley and Kissing Bridge near Buffalo. NOT BAD !! Lots of powder when I went.

I'll have to sign up for that $120 deal if I finally get in off of the list !

Middle third usually gets in. I think we need to see where we are after all the interviews are done in April before freaking out.... at least that's what I keep telling myself!! 😉

Yeah. I hear ya. Such a shame too, I was so upbeat about Buffalo after my interview and really expected to be put fairly high up in their waitlist - But I guess that's just the way things go. At this point I'm pretty much writing off my chances of acceptance to Buffalo (in the bottom 1/3) but I'll wait til I get an acceptance to withdraw... Cause in the great words of the NY State Lottery - "Hey, ya never know"

if it is any comfort, maybe it is my totally unscientific self-delusion: on md apps it seems that nearly 50% of those accepted to UB were off the waitlist. Also the number rejected off the waitlist was relatively small, like 25% of those listed as waitlisted on MD apps.

Dr. Severin said the same thing at my interview date about interviewing 450-500 regardless of applicant number. Has anyone asked Mr. Rosso if they have changed that decision (meaning more interviews for same number of spots as previously suggested). <-- I interviewed more recently than the previous posters.

Oh, and wouldn't adding more interview dates throw off the 'we save acceptance spots for every date' that they kept emphasizing (since they would have filled a disproportionate number of spots in the beginning interviews assuming that only 500 would be interviewed in the first place).

And then, would that mean that there were only waitlist spots for candidates interviewed in May with high 'composite scores post-interview', meaning that the rest of us would be bumped down on the waitlist?

Seems to make sense to me, although thats obviously all just speculation, so feel free to comment if you disagree with my guesstimates.

Also, do you think its increased applications to all medical schools or does their increase in application number increased a true preference to just UB. If it iis the latter you might assume that matriculation rate will go up, bringing the number of total acceptances (including waitlist) down a bit. 300 acceptances for 700 interivews? Might be a bit on the pessimistic side, but I have no idea. Just food for thought as I too struggle with the stress of the process.

Personally I don't think they will interview that many poeple but any where between 500-600 makes sense as they have more applicants this year!

And btw, Mr. Rosso is not throwing out numbers randomly, we all get some scores from the interview + our MCAT + GPA + other stuff and overall we get one final score. I had the same feelings with great interviews but I guess GPA and MCAT and other stuff affect our overall score! 😕
