You don't learn that much from dissection, you learn it from going over already-dissected areas a few times. Oh I'm aware that it's somewhat more convenient in some ways, but sometimes I guess you just like screwing up the dissections yourself :laugh:

Actually I kinda like how Downstate has 8 to a body but they rotate off so it's not overly crowded in the lab. It just seemed kinda cramped to have 8 people standing around trying to dissect at the same time.

But yeah it probably won't really matter in the long run, but since the schools are fairly close in my mind right now I gotta run down the nitpicks to try and decide lol.

lol I wish I had other options...I'm still waiting on final decisions from everyone.

My Buffalo status still shows "NO ACTION" which it's been showing since November, so that's no help lol.

Come on Buffalo...give me an acceptance...PLEASE!!!

Well you just interviewed there on Wednesday, right? The decision on my file was made and updated on the website the Friday after I interviewed (by 6am central time). So check tomorrow or call their admissions office. I think they usually have their minds made up by Friday it seems
 
Maybe I should just call, it still seems to say No action, but I just don't want to come off like a jerk lol.
Edit: Apparently Mr. Rosso is out of town, I guess maybe it really will take a week this time =p
 
OK, so the admissions folks are back from their trip to Boston and are busy going over the 4/18 people...

The wait is slowly driving me insane lol.
 
Something to pass the time: Is anyone bummed out about the new House episodes? The old ones were good, but old person love-triangles just aren't as entertaining.
 
Only a few days until they finalize their waitlist (May 1st)!!
 
are you sure it's may 1st? or may 2nd? The last interview is actually may 2nd so i don't know if they'll have the list by the 1st. Waiting is pain. Hope we'll all make it!!!!!!!

Well, if anybody cares, I called them up after checking my status with a sense of dread and seeing waitlist. And I'm apparently in the top 1/3rd, but I don't want to be too optimistic on the off chance that all those extra applicants to med schools this year means that everyone buffalo gave an acceptance to takes it and nobody gets off the waitlist, lol.

Paranoid? Perhaps, but until I get a real acceptance I can't be too careful lol.

No need to be paranoid, upper 1/3 has been equal to a delayed acceptance for many years now. Congratulations! :hardy:
 
I read in past years UBuffalo Waitlist forums and they mention something about the "waitlist" becoming the "alternate" list and how some people get taken off this list when this transition occurs. Do you know if that will happen with our list? or has it already been done?
 
waitlist and alternate list are the same thing-initially, UB posted 'Alternate List' on their website to denote 'waitlist' for those applicants who were waitlisted and later chgd it to 'Waitlist' as 5 trillion applicants called in asking this very question. again, WL=alt list.

also, last interview is may 2nd hence wl will be finalized after that.

Being in the upper 1/3 is essentially a lock for acceptance as was stated. I forget how far they got in the list last year, but things happened very fast once May rolled around.

As for 8 people to a cadaver, yes it does get crowded around the table at times, but if you have a cooperative and supportive group, you can make it work without stepping on each others toes. In some cases, you and your lab partner can't work on your dissection until another group is finished with theirs anyway.

Often, only 4 of us were there at any one time and it definitely helped avoid conflict. A few tables didn't figure out a good system for time sharing and there was a lot of hostility. It's no surprise either that these same tables had the lowest grades.

Moral of the story: be nice to your fellow classmates; we're all stressed out too.

Hey guys, how much are out-of-staters at a disadvantage admissions-wise? My med school book said they only accept 5-6 OOS out of each class, but there were a lot of us OOS-ers at my interview day.

That is definitely not true. Although the school is predominantly New Yorkers, there are at least 25 people from out of state, myself included, that I can think of off the the top of my head.

Believe me, UB has love for the OOs-ers.
 
Heh, thanks for the congrats Soggun and Porcelain16, but my mother is pretty paranoid (and disappointed seeming no matter how many times I explain that it's almost an acceptance, lol) and I think it's keeping me from really being too sure of it. Oh well, shouldn't have to wait too long once the waitlist is finalized and May 15th rolls around.

BTW, I think I got added to the master list as Circus...unless there actually is a Circus also on the waitlist. :laugh:

Don't worry dude, from previous years' stats it looks like they offer acceptances to about half of the out of staters they interview. The odds were a little bit better if you were in-state (like 60-70% get offers) but 50% is still pretty dang good, and it's possible that more of the out of staters seemed like they wouldn't move to Buffalo (I dunno if the points for being in-state are counted before inviting or after inviting for an interview).

Either way, you have a great chance of getting an acceptance from Buffalo.

Anyways, you should find out your status VERY shortly, so don't even stress over this.
 
Do you think by May 2nd we will know where within the 1/3 are we? For instance, Top, Middle or Bottom of the Upper 1/3.

Hi All - this is my first time posting in here. I interviewed on April 11th and have since joined the wait list. I really want to know where I am on the list to determine what kind of chance I have for actually going to UB next year. It was my top choice so I am in the same boat as all of you who desperately would like to know! I'm not really sure how persistent I should be with following up. Anyone have any advice or suggestions about what they did to find out/let UB know that they're very interested? Thanks! Good luck to all of you 😀

I interviewed in March and was accepted 2 days later as an OOS applicant. One reason why I applied to UB was because they seemed to be one of few state university systems that tends to accept a relatively large % of OOS applicants.

If you know that you're on the waitlist from looking at the status page then you should be able to call their admissions office and ask them what third of the list you are on. Some people have apparently been able to find out what part of their respective third they are on, but I wouldn't count on that.

It's anybody's guess as to how much post-waitlist followup will impact your chances. Since it's essentially ranked, I think the influence will be somewhat limited unless there's someone with the same score as you. Don't let me stop you from corresponding, though. I don't know more than anyone else.

That said, don't be afraid to call Mr. Rosso and find out where you stand on the waitlist. They're really nice and he's more than happy to tell you...

Depakote is exactly right. Any correspondence after the fact isn't going to change your position on the list because it's scored. The list only moves when people are accepted, decline their seat, or drop off the waitlist.

Believe me, things will move very fast in the coming weeks.
 
um, "non-accept" is a straight-up rejection, right?
 
Yeah, that's what my status page says now - I interviewed yesterday. Hm. Do you think they'll tell me why I got rejected if I call? Also, I thought they posted status on Fridays? Guess they're just really damn sure they don't want my ass there.

hey cirrus, i've also been accepted at uic and albany 🙂 i am really happy about buffalo as well. i loved it (just interviewed yesterday)! i could totally see myself wasting away at that awesome library :laugh: my first interviewer was so great, i had a really good feeling about the school after interviewing with him

Definitely call the office to get a clarification. They'll give it to you straight, unlike other schools who shall remain anonymous.

If it used to say "NO ACTION" before and now it says that, then I imagine that it means you haven't been accepted/waitlisted. I would call just to clarify just like someone else said tho

Well it's definitely not an acceptance...and if you were on the wait list, it would say "wait list."

Also, my gf, who declined an interview, gets "non-accept" when she logs in.

I called once when I found out I was on the waitlist, once in early April. I might call again once the waitlist is finalized and again at the end of May or Early June when the waitlist has had a chance to move a fair bit.

Honsetly, your position on the waitlist is pretty much set. You're not going to move that much up or down as people are added, so calling regularly to find out your position won't likely yield dramatic results.

i guess i won't call this week then. hehe...i'm just afraid that I'm in the lower of the upper 1/3 and since people are still interviewing, i might get pushed down into the middle 1/3. i'm just being paranoid.

i think you're ok either way...my understanding was that UB tends to accept the top 2/3 of the waitlist, and potentially some off the bottom 1/3. someone correct me if i've been misinformed though, i dont want to give out false info here
