Don't get too paranoid...even if you're not at the very top of the top 1/3rd you're still very likely to get accepted, just maybe slightly later than the people at the very top of the top 1/3rd.

Seriously, it doesn't matter.

That said, I hope I get an acceptance on the 16th :laugh:
(that's when Buffalo starts giving out large #'s of acceptances to the waitlist)

hehe. that normally means only a week in my normal everyday life...but now--in waitlist time...

a week is an eternity.

just called in today...mr. rosso said they're into the upper third and actually moving pretty fast, and that we'll status changes today through august
 
When you guys call, do you ASK for Mr. Rosso? Or does he just answer the phone? Every time I call I get Jeff.

It's very close to home and I love the environment of the school.

I always ask for Mr. Rosso.

In fact, I just called today and I am still in the middle third. Again, not good, not bad....good luck to all!

I definitely don't want to lose hope but I'm wondering, has anyone looked at past SDN forums for UBuffalo waitlists? Was there WL movement so early in May?? How did we learn that there would be massive WL movement on the 16th?

I apologize for the pessimism! I already accepted Boston U MS but I'd love to get off the UB waitlist and go there instead

I remember there was a forum (i think last year or the year before) where they went though the whole upper 1/3 or at least the middle upper 1/3 by the end of may. In terms of massive movement on the 16th, i think that was just a guess, not definite. But it would definitely be nice it was true.

yeah, they seemed to go through it pretty fast...i'm a bit cautious comparing our timeline to theirs though, because they ended interviews earlier

kfire, just ask him to connect you to mr. rosso...it seems like mr. rosso always has those waitlists right in front of him
 
wow, thanks for all the new info guys; from what I saw last year, they were done with the upper third by end of may and then started calling my student host, who was in the middle third of the waitlist, in june. so anything can happen nowaday. herecomesthesun, it'd be nice to have you as a classmate too!!!!

I called earlier and was told that THE CLASS IS FILLED, with 135 students, but they are moving a steady pace through the top third. 3-4 acceptances were issued today. They also said the waitlist movement each day is unpredictable and sporadic. Some days might be slow, some might be fast.

I was told that they WILL be able to tell us WHEN they start accepting from the middle third, but can't tell us exactly how far they are into each third, where we are ranked in each third, or how many people there are above us.

Also, he mentioned that being in the middle third (like me) meant a "50/50 shot" of being accepted. This goes against what people have said about middle third being a pretty good chance (since they've supposedly consistently dipped into the bottom 1/3)

from post 208-220 it seems they were done giving acceptances to upper 1/3 by May 16 2006 ...

I don't think they are moving that fast this year and if the class is filled already which is a pretty terrible news, the chances of even upper 1/3s should not be very good either!!!

I am serious ...

Rates for the hotels are around $150-200 which we can have atleast 4 of us per room!

Actually it was mostly based on previous years' results...seems like Buffalo hands out a lot of acceptances the day after the deadline for holding 1 acceptance, which happens to be...the 16th =p

And umm you meant thread not forum.

sekem...it goes a lot faster when you get towards the 15th...
I don't think we're really any slower than last year...we've had a couple of people say they got off the waitlist, and if you look at last year it's pretty much the same thing...not many SDNers actually say they got in until around the 16th.

Anyways, don't get your hopes TOO high up I guess (just to be paranoid) but also don't go freaking out that you haven't gotten an acceptance yet lol.

Umm...all that being "filled" means is that they gave out 135 acceptances that are being held. But it's very unlikely that everyone holding an acceptance is going to keep it.

Anyways, if what Kfire said before is true about the middle third being 50/50 this year, then that means top 1/3rd is 100% 😀 since that's the only way you'd get to half of the middle third.

Umm...anyways, no more paranoia, you're making me paranoid.
 
I just called today and found out that I have moved into the top third of the final waiting list! However, he has been instructed by Mr. Rosso not to reveal which portion within each third each applicant is in to avoid problems. He said that the office forsees the school moving through the entire top third for sure this application cycle. According to him, there were several people declining their acceptances today so the list is moving fairly quickly, even before May 15th. I wish everyone the best of luck and hope that we all make it through!

Yep. I doubt all 135 are going to be keeping their spots. Also, not everyone accepted off the waitlist will be putting down their deposits.

Do they reject off the waitlist too?
 
i read something in a previous waitlist thread about them chopping off some of the bottom 1/3, but who knows
 
Just found out by checking online that I got accepted off the waitlist. Was placed in the top 1/3 pool to begin with. Anyone else get pulled off as well? Good luck all! 🙂

Thanks! I'm not too sure yet because I also got accepted into NYMC. I checked my status on the on-line applicant page.

So right now I am having trouble deciding. Since I'm OSS, I'm not too familiar with the NY med school system and was wondering how NYMC and UB compare up. Anyone know?

I am kinda bummed that i didn't get to sit into any classes at UB so i'm not too sure about the teaching there, although I loved talking to the students and other applicants, everyone was so nice! Did anyone get to see the lecture halls and how nice are the facilities? Thanks!

Right, the school is keeping the class list full by issuing the necessary amount of acceptances at a time that correspond with the number of people declining acceptances. So right now, 135 people are holding acceptances from UB, some have put down deposits to hold a seat, but many haven't.

I was in the upper 1/3 last year and was among those who got pulled off the list right around May 15th. It happened a lot sooner than I anticipated.

WOW! Congratulations! That is great news! Both NYMC and UB are great schools. You are going to have to go with your impressions during interview day of each school and think about which place you can see yourself spending 4 years at. Also, UB is less expensive than NYMC but you are also at a more "remote" location. Either way, go with your gut feeling...if you follow that you will always be making the right choice. I hope I get to have the pleasure of being your classmate. I had a really good time interviewing with you and everyone else in March. Let us know which school you decide on.

heh pretty good so far, im waiting for someone with some time to calculate using the available sample data how many studentdoctor waitlist acceptees = real world acceptees so that we can see how well the waitlist is progressing. I know the studentdoctor isnt best sample but it seems pretty well distributed among the three different sections

Id do it but its finals week

I called earlier today and found out that I got bumped up to the upper 1/3 from the middle 1/3 !!!! I have a good feeling about this year !! I truly hope we all get in.

Thanks guys!! On the status page it says simply accepted. I don't know when it was posted as I only checked it today and haven't recieved any of the paperwork yet.

Las Vegas sounds great. Club Pure at Caesar's palace is the way to go !!!! I'm up for it !!!
