Hi Everyone

My girlfriend is currently applying to the MPH program at Berkeley and UCLA. She has a 1310 for GRE and 3.6 grade point average. I was wondering if anyone has any advice in regards for the application process that you feel might help her chances of getting accepted.

Was there a particular aspect of your application that you felt really contributed to you getting into these schools.

She's pretty stressed about her application so I would love to help her in any way I can. I appreciate the assistance that anyone can provide.

Best Regards,

Edward

I too was also curious about UC Berkeley's MPH program. I already e-submitted my SOPHAS application, but didn't include UC Berkeley as a school designation because I haven't started their required UC Berkeley Graduate School application. One thing holding me back is that their supplemental application requires another essay that I haven't really thought about.

I'm wondering if I should even apply (and would have to do so soon, since their deadline is approaching), since it is a UC and probably difficult to get into. Does anyone have information about their acceptance rates and what they focus on in the admissions process? If their MPH program is like a typical UC and all about GPA and the GRE score, then I probably won't be applying.

Well i'm also considering UCB and still undecieded 🙁 however i attended one of their event for prospective students where they emphasized that admission application is evaluated as whole not just GPA + GRE scores, their website have detailed info about their acceptance rate as par concentration and also the average GPA and GRE of applicants.

I'm a little worried about the deadling for UC-Berkeley. It says the deadline is 12/1/2010 and I for SOME reason thought it was 12/15/2010, which is true for most other schools. Do you think it's too late to send in my SOPHAS app for UC-Berkeley now? SOPHAS takes about four weeks to process apps. Or is it that they just need their own grad school application in by that date and are willing to wait for the SOPHAS one?

Please help!

Berkeley seems to really stress the essay, especially your reasons for wanting to go into public health. It's true that a lot of people in my program have had several years of work experience and overall impressive undergrad performances, but there are also a handful that are straight from undergrad with very little relevant experience and are from small, unknown colleges.

I'd think twice about going to Berkeley, though. If you're getting in-state tuition it's a great deal, but I moved across the country for this and am really disappointed so far.

Sorry to hear about your bad experience. You are at Berkeley right now? What program? UCB is my last choice - I applied just cause I live so close.

I thought that as long as you "e-Submit" your SOPHAS by Dec 1st, it's fine...?

I, too, am sorry to hear that! I'm interested in their Maternal and Child health program...would you happen to know anything about that?

Thanks in advance!

Yeah! Actually, Berkeley got back to me about that a few days ago. They said that I just needed to have everything turned IN by December 1st since they already accounted for SOPHAS taking so long by putting an early deadline. Thanks though!

Also, it's cannoying that the Berkeley office does not answer any of the phone calls. They seem to redirect everyone to their email addresses. I know it's more convenient for them but it's also so nerve-wrecking for me...heh

OMG that is a relief! Thank you for confirming this!!! Good luck with your app!
