Well I hear that they only are sending out the e-mails during business hours, so I suppose that I can give my email a rest until the morning! :scared:
 
Hi everyone, I'm new on here. I was just wondering if there was any rhyme or reason to how they send out letters? All rejections first, then acceptances? Alphabetical?

Congratulations to everyone who has gotten their letters!!! I'm glad I'm not alone in freaking out 😉 lol
 
So I was told by Kim in the office that they start with rejections and then follow with the acceptances/waitlist. And that they are randomly sent out. But one of my friends says that they send out acceptances based on rating, higher ratings go first.

That is helpful, thanks! Hopefully it's good I've not heard anything yet... but then there's the waitlist... I'll keep my fingers crossed for tomorrow.

I was just curious what % of people had heard already and did the research. I draw no conclusions from the numbers. Gave me something to do to keep busy. Now I can start thinking about dinner.

95% chance i eat out.
5 % chance i cook.

your research shows me that SDNers represent only a small portion (11%) of the Davis interviewees, which means that the sample size is too small for any accurate assessment.

however! JUST FOR FUN...

looking at the 24 interviewees you found here, we can do a quick calculation. since about 2/3 out of 220 are accepted, which is say, around 145-150 out of 220, the we can perhaps "speculate" that about 2/3 out of 24 here will be accepted. that's approximately 16. since only 5 have been accepted so far, that leaves 11. and the rest, 3, should get rejected (or waitlisted?).

Kim O'Bryan specifically told me right after my interview that they send out acceptances in a randomized order -- NOT by rank or alphabet. So I would say (and like to think!) that your friend is incorrect.

Come on now, we all know Nyanko is great, but we don't want her to get a big head or anything and think that because she heard first she's better ranked than any of the rest of us :laugh:
 
i was also told by kim that everything is RANDOM!!! not by ranking! so everyone just relax and keep checking your email!

Based on my GPA, that's definitely a myth. :laugh:

Alphabetical is also a no-go - my last name begins with V.

StartingoverVet - you are awesome.

I think they are sending everything out slowly so as to avoid any problems like those that occurred during the sending of interview invitations. I hope you all get good news tomorrow. :luck:

Congratulations, Nyanko and Jesiah! (Yes, I really did just go with comic sans, cyan and magenta - thinking bold here 😉). So exciting that SDNers are hearing good news.

I really hope they're done sending out rejections, but I'm not counting on anything and refuse to speculate other that it's random and I just have to wait and see. It's getting really nervewracking, though! I had a dream last night where we found out if we got in by walking into Gladys and if one of the seats had our name on it we were in, but if we couldn't find our seat we had to leave. 😱

No no no! Your methodolgy is seriously flawed in its assumption that SDNers are a representative sample of interviewees (and not because of sample size.). We all KNOW that we are much better on average. Especially because we have access to better information (inside information = outsized performance)! Therefore I would expect better than average results.

Yay Llama Slug!!! 😀

I'm going to give myself a week or two to absorb it and make a decision. It's most likely that I will be joining the class of 2014 but I want to get the opinion of a few more people first.
 
When I talked to Kim today she said that people who have completed all of the pre-reqs are likely to get emails first.... she has to manually edit emails if you still have classes to complete.

Hopefully they get all the emails out soon! 🙂

And while I'm here, congratulations once again to Nyanko and Co.

Ny, I don't know a lot about the research scene, but do you think it'd be easier to get another prestigious research position than getting back into vet school? It would seem to me that there's a lot more research opportunities than there are vet school seats.

This is probably true and there is seperate NIH money for veterinarians to pursue a PhD (may be important if you want to go into an underfunded area).


However ISU does have a great vet school so that may be an option down the line too😀 Of course I am just pushing to have Nyan in Ames with me:meanie:

I was also told the same thing by Kim, but one of my friends who attends UCD CVM told me that Dr. ______ said that they are not randomized.

But anywho, I prefer the idea of no randomization. I think that we should be able to start on a level playing field!! So thanks for confirming moosenanny!

Back to frantically checking my email for some sort of news......hopefully!:xf:

Thanks for posting this -- it makes me feel a lot better! Because I'm finishing up my senior year and in physics still, I can just blame my lack of email thus far on that!

Anyone else notice that we haven't had anyone post about getting a rejection since Wednesday? Maybe it's just coincidence, or maybe Davis really was able to send all rejections out on Wednesday. Positive thinking, right?

I checked my email this morning, nada. I promised myself not to check it again until after 5pm.
 
Ahhhhh I got in right after I bitched to a friend that this whole waiting for email thing was crap. Yayyyyy

I just got an acceptance as well! I know I don't post here much but I feel like I know all of you 'cause I'm on here all the time. I'm looking forward to meeting my future classmates!

Wow, congrats to everyone who's heard good news. I'm one of those still waiting in limbo. It is exciting to hear good news from you guys but it is nervewracking waiting on the sidelines....

Dang, just got an email and I'm waitlisted #6. Don't get me wrong, I'm incredibly happy that I did not get a flat out rejection, but now I'm still left freaking out about whether or not I might get in. I talked to the very nice lady at the office and she said that 11 people have to deny to get to the alternate list alone, then 6 more have to decline to get to me.

She said it was doable, though, so I will cling to that. I'm hoping that anyone who is wavering on Davis will think of me - who is NOT wavering and has wanted to go to Davis alone for a long time now.
