This is a small program that rarely gets mentioned on this board. It's very outpatient MSK oriented like Virginia.
Anyone have any insight?
Sacramento's not that exciting but it is 2 hours from the mountains (and some of the best skiing south of BC) and 2 hours from SF.
Yes, Davis doesn't get as much attention as a smaller program, but talking to a number of different program directors, I think it is one of the more highly regarded programs in California with regards to outpatient/msk/emg medicine.
True, Sacramento is not that exciting, but it has lower living costs and a nice "active lifestyle" feeling to the place. Like you said, it is also relatively close to Reno/Tahoe and the bay area. Don't forget Yosemite is not very far either.
One thing I did want to mention was that during their last interview day, they mentioned that they would officially be changing one of their advanced PGY-2 spots to a linked/categorical PGY1-4 spot. This brings the final count to TWO categorical spots and ONE advanced spot.
I know it has some ramifications with DO applicants who may be interested in doing an approved AOA internship, but due to the increasing difficulty in finding prelim and transitional spots in California, the shift towards another PGY1 spot made sense.
Just thought I'd post it since I don't recall seeing it mentioned anywhere else and it is important to know since there are very few spots in the first place.
