I got an interview invite to UC Irvine yesterday out of the blue (didn't think I would ever hear from them!). But now my question is should I go? I have already gotten into UC Davis. Any comments?

I don't know much about Irvine. I think Davis is slightly higher rank than UCI. And I'm guessing that there's not that much of a diff in tuition between the two schools.

People who have been to Irvine, what do you think of the school, the atmosphere, the teaching and all?

Thanx for any info!

hi runner,

i think you should go just for the heck of it and check out the school. although i've heard ucd is a little bit better than uci (all subjective, of course), it would be a good experience just to see what uci has to offer and you can compare the two.

on the other, if you're going to have to spend some money getting to uci and you're set on going to ucd, then skip it....good luck!

Runner,

You know my opinion on this subject. I say, GO TO THE INTERVIEW!!!!! 😀 😀 😀

Even if UC Davis is a better school, it cannot beat UC Irvine's vastly superior environment and proximity to the beach.

you spent the money for the secondary and the primary..i can't really tell you if you should go or not. why did you apply there? price is about the same, rankings don't matter, and cost of living is a little higher in irvine. you can't really get a good perspective unless you have visited both schools and have gotten a feel.

if you are set on davis, then you already know the answer. if you are not, check irvine out.

good luck with it all.

•••••Um, I'm gonna disagree with this comment. Try MUCH higher. I live in Davis right now, and my brother goes to Irvine. Rents in Irvine are like 2x those in Davis. I think the cost of living in Irvine would be more comparable to the cost of living in the Bay Area (i.e. UCSF, Stanford).

Davis does have a BAD housing shortage though, so expect rents to increase at LEAST 4%/year, probably much more. I'm not sure, but I think housing is also pretty tight in Irvine, at least if you want to be less than 30 min from campus (or so my bro tells me).

I would go to the Irvine interview. Thousands of CA residents would give a limb to get interviews at the UCs. Irvine is a nice environment and the weather is amazing in Southern California. If you decide not to go to the interview, out of respect for other SDN members, please withdraw your application. Good luck.

For those of you that got a recent invite at UCI can you please tell me if it was by email or snail mail? I am out of the country right now on spring break so if it is by regular mail and I was fortunate to get one I wouldn't know it. As it stands it is costing me a fortune just to check email but I digress. Congrats to those of you fortunate enough to get interviews in CA as for me UCI is all I have left and I am on interview hold there.

Thanks

I got an interview invite 2 months ago, and the notice was by email.

Thanx for all the comments! 🙂 Many good points!

I guess one major factor why I'm reluctant about going to the UCI interview is because I don't feel too motivated about doing all the prep work. 🙄 I thought I was done with interviewing, for good or for bad.

medicine2006: I also got my interview invite by email.
