Does anybody know if Upper Division Biochem counts for the UC Irvine upper division biology requirement? I'm waiting to get a response from the Admissions committee on this but I need to know an answer by today. I'd like to drop a class I'm enrolled in to satisfy this requirement (cell bio) and today is the last day to drop without a W. Let me know if anybody has talked to them about this requirement.

BTW, I called admissions and they said they thought Biochem would satisfy the requirement but asked me to submit an email to them to make sure. That was 5 days ago. No reply to the email...

i had a similar problem b/c i am an engineering major and did not take any upper div bio so i called them and asked; they are pretty stringent about the requirement and when i last heard biochem would not count towards the upper div bio category but the chemistry category. you might've spoken to a different person, i am not too sure. perhaps u have taken a lot of biochem class and one of them can be applied there? but i tried to ask them for substitutional class and they were a bit unwilling to let it slide (i never heard back in time so decided to take a MCB class), so i would think that biochem upper div doesnt satisfy it.

I don't think Bio 98 Counts, at least thats what the people at Davis Told me when I called to ask last year.

EDIT::

Ooops, I thought you were a UCI student wondering if Bio 98 Would Count for Upper Div Bio at other schools.

I had to deal with an issue like this with UCI. I 'think' it will count IF you are not using this more than once...ie for a bio AND chem requirement.

I am currently taking Biochem and they informed me that I have not met the upper-division requirement this week. They told me that I will have to take another bio class so I don't think it fulfills the requirement.

out of curiosity, what are you guys going to do to fulfill the requirement?

I'm sure people run into this problem more often than we think. I wonder if taking a class at community college works, or a class at your university but post-graduation?

They told me that community college classes would not fulfill it. My only option is to take an online course as all local summer sessions finish after the first day of class.
