Hey, residents out in California - what's going on over there with this budget crisis? I've been hearing (through the grapevine) that there are pay cuts to resident salaries in the range of 4-8%, or even more? Is that really happening over there? I knew the budget was in trouble, but... 😱

It means "government controlled medicine is the end of everything".

Or, simply, don't go to California. I got a pay raise, and my state is not swimming in money. And the government isn't reducing the amount they're paying, so for the state to cut salaries means they're simply skimming it off the tops of the residents (since we bring income to the hospital, and the fed pays more than our salaries to the hospital).

my wife is a UC Davis ED resident, and despite cuts to UC staff she has been assured that residents will be exempt from the pay cuts.

As a resident you should be happy to help people for free. It should be part of your training, since this is likely our future -----> indentured servitude to the government with minimal to no compensation.
