UC schools frown upon reapplicants?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
You wont find any UC approved literature that says anything of that sort. With that said, time for an anecdote! - A guy I know was denied twice from every school he applied to. After working his ass off for two years, he was accepted to UCLA on his third try. That was in the early 90's.

And I forgot - Each of the UC schools with a medical school have a post-bacc program for minority medical school rejected applicants, with the purpose of getting them in on second try.

I think everyone is missing the point of this post. It is not mean't that UC is hard on non-traditional kids, the guy mean't that the Uc's are hard on kids that applied to a UC medical school, got rejected, then are applying again. That being said, I did see something on the UCSF website about reapplicants. If I recall, it said that people are encouraged to reapply. In fact, on my interview there I actually met a kid who applied there, got rejected, did work for teach for america, and got in the next year. So don't get your hopes down if you are a reapplicant. If anything, it'll show med schools in Cali how dedicated you are to go there... 👍

My fiancee applied first year, was rejected by all UC schools. Applied the second year: got in at UCI, UCSD... Now he graduated and heading for Johns Hopkins for ophthalmology residency. It is good that he waited.. 🙂

Is there a reason the person is a reaplicant???

No, I didnt miss the point of the post... I was telling him that it is not an official UC position to be negative towards reapplicants. I dont see how one could be confused.

I was a reapplicant and am starting med school this fall at a UC. 🙂

Ditto for me! I think that reapplicant status can work against you and work for you. On the one hand, schools are going to wonder..."Is there something wrong with this applicant that nobody wanted him/her during his/her first application cycle" and on the other hand, they're going to think "This person must be fairly confident that medicine is the right road for him/her to endure another cycle." Additionally, reapplicants usually have been out of school for at least a year which may give them some "life experience" points.
