Just wondering if anybody could answer some of my questions:

Is anyone on SDN currently in this program?
Does anyone have interview feedback on this program (its not on the SDN interview feedback)?
Do you get to meet current students the day of?
I understand that UCB charges you three years of tuition, are there good financial aid packages?
Any thoughts about the program itself? How are the preceptorships?
Anyone know if the curriculum is better than the normal UCSF program? Is it beneficial (besides getting a better humanistic approach) as far as acheiving higher board scores?

Thanks!

I'm not in the program; I was admitted 4 years ago when I was applying for med school.

I think you'll have 2-3 interviews with JMP faculty members. You do get to meet people in the program. I'm not sure about financial aid and board performance, but you do come out with an additional degree, which will be especially attractive to academic residency programs. My guess is that the board scores won't tell you much, because they only let in highly qualified applicants (i.e. people who take tests well).

Good luck!

I had an interview there earlier.
#2 this is an interview feedback from last year regarding the program - although the person who wrote it really didn't like it. Its under UCSF... probably good to find to see cons of program.
#3 yes you meet current students on your interview...you sit in on a class, have a 3rd year student interview, and then they had a 3rd year take me to lunch... you are in their lounge between times so you get to talk to a lot of people.
#4 correct... you can talk to financial aid at any time during the interview... I did note that you can get TA positions (they call them something different though) to have tuition remission and pay (something different).
#5 with 12 people you really get the personal attention and they are there to do whatever you need. I REALLY liked it and think it suits my needs and interests best.
#6 The student who I went to lunch with sister went to the regular UCSF program so she offered a lot of insights. Basically it really comes down to your learning style and what you prefer.

Feel free to pm me with specific questions.

oh, and I was the only interviewee that day (that's something I would have liked to have known)... similar to UCSF in interview style (blind, laid back, etc)...

Thanks for the input! Is the UCB/UCSF JMP your top choice now? From what I understand, I think they only interview 1-3 people per interview date.

Yes, the JMP is my first choice (although I am unbelievably ecstatic to get into UCSF). I really liked the PBL and want to the masters thesis. It was my second interview (and at Davis there was like 20 people) so I was struck a bit by being the only one there that day. I REALLY want to hear back from them, and I'm hoping it will be any day now so I can finalize my wedding date!

Thats awesome. I am excited about going to my interview and checking it out. Unfortunately it won't be for another month. I am very interested in learning more about the JMP PBL and the masters thesis is also something that interests me (so many projects to work on in the Bay). Thanks for your help doublepeak, good luck!

Elastase- When are you interviewing? I am going at the end of February
🙂!

Chouster: No my friend, YOU are so money.

🙂!: mid-Feb. Good luck on your interview!

Doublepeak: Congrats on your wedding (forgot to mention earlier), and I am sorry to hear about your status for the JMP. You do have something really nice to fall back on (the UCSF acceptance). Congrats, I hope you hear the news you want in the coming months. Good luck!

Elastase: Thanks, good luck to you too! 😀
