Hey guys! Was fortunate enough to have received an A from these two schools, but am having trouble deciding. Would you guys be able to give some additional insight? Anything would be greatly appreciated.
UCincinnati
Pros:
Super high board scores
IS tuition after first year
Decent city/city life. Seems to have tons of life and the areas around the campus seem alright (grew up in a more urban area)
Very nice facilities and gyms
Is a pretty decent mid tier school, ranked around 40
Research seems abundant
Top ranked Peds program (not really interested in Peds, but still cool to have)
Cheaper tuition (compared to UVM atleast)
Cons:
P/F with internal ranking for preclinicals and H/HP/P/F for clinicals. The internal ranking system seems to have caused a lot of unnecessary stress for students and made the class more competitive in nature (I've heard a few things about this and so kind of a big concern)
Not really too keen on staying in the Midwest afterwards
Weekly exams
UVM Larner
Pros:
As far as I know, preclinicals are true P/F and clinicals are H/P/F which is better than Cincinnati's imo. Students also seem less stressed as a result of the true P/F and have more time to pursue other interests (the true P/F is what's drawing me in)
Lectures aren't mandatory and are recorded
Rent is super cheap, but it doesn't seem like there are too many options nearby in terms of apartments compared to Cinci
Research also seems pretty easy to come by
Cons:
Cold (I know Cincinnati is cold too, but Vermont seems extra cold. I grew up somewhere where snow does not exist and is sunny most of the time)
Very small city compared to where I come from. Not really much of a night life or too much to do in that respect
Farther away from home compared to Cinci
Rural Vermont (not interested in rural medicine or planning to practice in a rural area)
Tuition does seem to be more expensive
Summary: I was leaning more towards Cinci at the beginning, but after finding out about the ranked P/F and really taking a look at what UVM has to offer as well, I'm kind of struggling to decide between the two. Essentially, I like UVM more in terms of its curriculum and grading, but I like Cinci more because of its urban location and city. Anything at all would be helpful.
