Dude, don't think about it like that. I was in your shoes back couple months ago. I applied super early and invites came floating in. Then, after interviews, I didn't hear back from them while others have. This, of course, made me doubt whether or not I had a problem interviewing. But in due time, a wave of acceptances came. So it's not you, it's them. 😉

🙂 Thanks for the kind words. Yeah, I should stop being so defeatist about everything...it's just that the wait to get my first acceptance is just killing me.

Another thing about UCLA - during my interview, the guy asked straight up what my dream school was. The answer was UCLA, but at the moment I must've thought something along the lines of, "that's so cheesy an answer." So I ended up meandering through my response, and it ended up being just a dissing of other schools I had interviewed at.

Moral of the story: cheesy answers are better than non-answers. Although admittedly it was funny when he joined in on the dissing of the other schools in the area.

Has anyone from the 2/1 batch of final decision letters find out yet? I'm wondering whether that batch is rejections or acceptances?

When did you interview at UCLA?

i mid-Dec, havent heard anything yet

Long_John, chances are that they just haven't gotten to you, yet. My mom called Geffen to get the dates of the white coat ceremony (to see if it conflicts with another event), and the person on the phone implied that not many decisions have been sent out.

most likely, especially since i interviewed after the december adcom meeting. I have a feeling i'll be hearing around the middle of this month and that would be cruel if its a rejection because my birthday is Feb 15!
my estimates are that they've accepted around 40-50.
5 SDNers have been accepted and SDNers, as a general rule, account for between 10-20% of the actual pre-med pool.

Yeah, I really don't think they would have decided on you yet if you interviewed AFTER the December meeting.

Also, only 4 people on mdapplicants have been accepted. If you do a search for how many people on mdapplicants were accepted to UCLA in 2004, it was quite a few people. Don't give up hope!!! We don't even know what the most recent batch is.

yea, thanks for the advise. and also i believe the white coat ceremony is on aug 5 in the afternoon if you're still interested. They start orientation during the first week of August and the friday of that week is the white coat ceremony.

Sounds like witch craft to me.

Just kidding 🙂

Last week, the mail came Friday and Saturday - I wish you all the best of luck!

for you guys who interviewed already, what was the timeline between getting an invite and the actual interview date.

did anyone get an interview less than a month after the invite?

uclastudent - thanks once again for all the insight and help

I didn't get the formal invite date in the mail today and was bummed. 🙁

Hi Derf--

First of all, congrats on getting a UCLA invitation!! I know you've been eagerly awaiting it and it has finally come 👍 🙂 .

My experience with UCLA admissions has been a very good one so far. Carrol was *extremely* helpful in assisting me with an interview date. I was able to schedule my interview about 3 weeks after I received the formal invitation in writing. I did let them know I was going to be in the area already so they tried to be as accomodating as they could.

Best of luck in your interview! :luck:

hey thanks crimson, i appreciate the kind words.

I'm hoping for late Feb, but early March is probably more realistic.

There isn't much waitlist movement for UCLA, and any day I can save is a day earned....haha

best to you,

derf

During my interview, one of the students told me that 40-50% of the class is made up of waitlisters.....

Did you hear from a more reputable source?

i'm not sure if thats right, but according to US News, UCLA granted admission to

~30% of the interview pool compared to ~50-70% for other Cali schools.

I interpreted this as less waitlist movement for UCLA

Hi derf, I am another who has heard that UCLA has good waitlist movement. 👍

I am not sure if your interviewer communicated accurately to you. I have heard that about 40-50% of the high priority waitlist will eventually be offered admission, but this does not necessarily equate to 40-50% of the entire class. According to US News, only about 238 or so are accepted for a class of 121. Those are some pretty slim odds compared to most places.

unless harvard miraculously pulls through (i am not holding my breath), i will most likely return to my bruin roots! its between ucla and nyu (which i still need to get into), but considering cost and proximity to my family, it is most likely ucla will beat out nyu! yay!

anyone hear from the 2/1 batch yet? i am interested in whether that batch was acceptances or rejections or a mix

my acceptance was from the 2/1 batch. hopefully good news is heading your way Longjohn! 👍

Another acceptance here for the 2/1 batch. I interviewed in late November.

Hopefully, everyone still waiting will also receive some love from UCLA. :luck:

it's Tuesday again...did anyone get a status change??
i dont think anyone got the change today. I think the main status change should be around next Tuesday +/- 2 days. by then they will have made a boatload of decisions and will be sending a big batch with all the goodies (accepts, rejects, waitlists, holds) unlike the previous two small batches which were just accepts.

the admissions office said the next round of acceptances would go out sometime "late February.."

let me know if y'all have q's about the curriculum. it might be a bit till i get a chance to answer though.

congrats and good luck to everyone.

docmemi, can i ask you what the clinical experience is like at ucla? i know you haven't gotten to your clinical years yet, but from what you have heard, do you know how hands-on it is? how are ther opportunities to work with the underserved?
thanks!

we get clinical experience from week 1: doctoring class and preceptor once a month. there are plenty of opportunities as a first year as well: mobile clinic, homeless clinic, health fairs, shadowing. note that all those are in underserved communities and you can request your preceptor to be as well.

as far as later on. all i can say is that there are a couple county facilities that you can go to like harbor and olive view and those give you great hands on. rumor has it that ucla hospital itself doesnt give you that much hands on, but i dont know if thats true. maybe you can ask the admissions office to give you contact info for a 3rd year or you can all our student affairs office.

thanks for the feedback 😉

would you guys mind discussing this stuff further in the ucla 2009 thread or something. i apologize but my blood pressure goes through the roof every time i see a post on this thread, followed by obsessive status checking for 30 minutes. for the sake of my and other ucla hopefuls' mental health can we take this discussion elsewhere....

I called in today and the next batch of decisions is not coming until early March. 😎

Hello all,

Congrat to all for your acceptance! UCLA is a great school !

I know my question is not fit here but i don't know where to ask. i wonder if the status page changed on the interview/transcript part to "requested...date" ...does that mean I got invited for an interview or some other "hold" letters ?

Thanks for letting me know! Any suggestion to prepare for this interview ? It's my first one !

hi kittiekat, and congrats on the interview. it certainly means an interview invite has been granted. You should be getting something shortly in the mail and expect the interview to be around 30 days from the invite date.

Don't really have much advice in preparing for the interview since I didn't interview at Geffen yet (early March), but I'd just read up on the web sites, try to anticipate any questions and just generally be loose and well-informed.

congrats again.
