On the interviewer note: I had a super nice interviewer who told me that she really hopes I get in, which makes me think that the interviews don't have as much pull at UCLA as the do other places. Makes sense, because they seem to do everything else bass-ackwards too.

On a relatively unrelated note, I had a really awkward experience yesterday that I think only you guys can understand.
So I went to the admissions office to drop off my letter of intent/update yesterday.
I was kind of nervous walking to the office for some reason, and here's how it went:

Brain: Why are you nervous? Just be calm, what could happen?
Admissions office guy: Hi, can I help you?
Brain: Caaaaalm...
Me: Uh, yeah, I have a letter of intent slash update ... thing
Brain: Oh god
Admissions guy: Oh, ok, I can take it.
Me: Yeah, I thought I would stave (yes, with a 't') the stamp since I had to come to CHS anyway
Brain: sTave????
Admissions guy: Oh, something something UCLA, right?
Brain: I think he said, 'you go to UCLA, right?'
Me: Oh, no I actually work here.
Admissions guy: Gives confused look, points to my badge, and says 'I know'
Me: Nervous laugh, oh...right.
Brain: Say something witty, quick!
Me: Well, thanks so much. I then give him two 'thumbs up' signs, and walk away.
Brain: You're an idiot.

I'm pretty sure he was staring in disbelief as I walked away. I just hope he has absolutely nothing to do with whether I get in or not!!

With all these subcommittees and such, who did you guys make out your LOI's to?
 
status change! states that it was sent 3/18.
weird bc it wasn't changed earlier today.

my interviewer was the nice derm lady with initials jk.

Man, I can't believe they told people decisions over the phone. I had thought about forcing my hand and making those admissions people break but to think it actually worked.

I had called after I saw my change and I asked directly if letters sent 3/18 were A/R/W and they guy (with accent, seemed nice) said all three were in those letters.

However, the two people who called both got waitlists so it seems to lend credence to the idea that this batch may be purely WL/R, unless it is a sick and unfortunate coincidence two people who called and got decisions both just happened to be WL.

So what am I to think? Is he directly lying/misinforming me? Will there be different decisions?

Ugh, this really sucks. Isn't there any current UCLA student who is on a committee (at least the guy who interviewed me said he was, but again, the way UCLA rolls that may be a lie too) inform me better of what's going on?

I guess I'll find out in less than 24 hours 😕
 
SDN really needs an official wager system. Instead of sitting here just waiting, we should be able to place small bets!

I would actually bet against myself, because if I did not get into UCLA, at least I would have some new money with which to buy ice-cream etc! And if I did get in, I would be so happy that loosing a few bucks would not hurt me.

SDN could take a small cut for running the system...and everyone wins!

....see waiting for UCLA is driving me crazy...thank goodness it will be over tomorrow and I can return to normalcy =D

I don't like you guys. I had no feelings what so ever for UCLA because I've been here for 4 yrs and nothing was new or exciting for me. I was more excited about going to Nor Cal for med school. But, now you all got me worked up...And I have a letter coming my way by tomorrow...Damn!!! and I'm annoyed for no good reason. WTF> Thanks alot SDN... thanks alot!!!! 😡

I got the status change too, but no letter today. hopefully it reaches orange county by tomorrow and my parents call me while i am at the Honda center for the NCAAs, it could be a great or terrible start to the tourney for me lol.

Wow you overconfident SOB (j/k btw), I'm putting down 1000 on a WL/R. This way, if I get bad news, at least I'll have paid for a portion of the money I wasted on UCLA/med school. If I get in, hey, that's money well spent :laugh:

Not only will I have been WL/Rejected by tomorrow, I will have most likely begun to fail my final exam, which is cumulative and which I haven't even looked at since it is my last college final as I am graduating a Quarter early.

BruinCat86, you took the words right out of my mouth. I have 2 finals tomorrow and have barely studied because I've been too busy worrying. I'm an emotional wreck now!! :scared:
 
Oh, and I'll probably get the letter in the afternoon, right before my final. So even though I really want to know, it might be better if I check after my final.

Haha. Koolbeenz, I feel you. Luckily for myself, I no longer care about school (further reinforced today finding out status change = bad) so I'm going out right now to buy beer, vodka, juice and throwing a party at my friends place. SDN might not make me saner, but liquor sure will.

DISCLAIMER: What you read right now is a lie but it WILL make you feel better.

"A current student at UCLA MED on the admissions committee assures me that there will be acceptances in tomorrow's batch."

Just repeat that to yourself and you might feel better. Well, at least you might 'cuz it sure hasn't done me jack.
 
I think I might call in sick tomorrow to wait for the mail. This is insane...

I talked to that guy. His name's Ian, right? He said I was out with committee when I called on Monday, and I would hear a decision in the next week or two. Lo and behold, a status change 2 days later. I asked him if they were still giving out acceptances and he said "oh yea, definitely" very enthusiastically. So maybe he's just an optimistic guy or he likes messing with our minds by giving us false hopes.
 
To all the Ucla undergrads with status changes of 3/18/08:

It seems last year ppl had a pop up on URSA, even before the actual letters arrived.

Can everybody check URSA and report back what you see

I have lost all hope right now. Someone please report back good news.

I dont know what URSA is, but there is no indication on my status page....

Could you tell us when your letter was dated and also post-marked? I'd really appreciate that.
 
The letter is dated March 17th, and the envelope is post-marked March 18th, and my status page says sent March 17th...

hope that helps....i cant wait to hear about you guys!!😀

i believe her letter was sent on 3/17... one day before the rest of ours.
 
I'm hoping that LadyDoc2 was in the 3/18 batch, but her letter got sent out a day early; instead of being a 3/14 batch (which it seems were all acceptances) straggler.
 
i hate to be a bearer of bad news but i got an unranked WL. letter sent 3/18/08. maybe others will have good news? dang, i dont even know what to do now.....what should i do?🙁🙁🙁

i was hoping the same. i can't do anything but think about my decision... i should be studying or writing a paper, but i can't focus for more than a minute...

I can't study either. I keep refreshing this darn thread every 30 seconds. I'm going to have to control myself soon.
