I did exactly what you are doing (accepting the address if it's "close enough") with no problem ... all of my schools have received my letters. The only bad code that I encountered is Stanford.
I made a service request to send my letters to schools last friday (stanford included) and then found after that the code they had for stanford was incorrect. I emailed the career center about this asking them to change the address on my letters and here's how they responded. looks like they made the necessary adjustments in their system
"Thank you for contacting us. We called Stanford University's Office of
Admissions this morning, and they indicated that they just changed the
UPS mailing address to be consistent with the mailing address we use
for USPS. The staff member at this office assured us that all mail using
the address in our coded school list is still being delivered without
delay to their office. However, we have just changed the address in our
coded school list for UPS mailings to match the USPS address. Your
letters will be mailed to this updated address.
Since our IT staff is extremely impacted, we may not be able to make a
change on short notice in the future. We are also in our peak
processing period at this time. In the future, please review the addresses as
shown in Step 6 of our 7-step request process. If any of the addresses
in the coded section do not match your information, you have the option
of going back and entering the address you wish to have your letters
sent by changing this school from a "coded" to a "non-coded" address.
You can also notify our office via email, as you did in this case, and we
will be happy to contact the school to verify their address. We verify
our coded addresses with the latest AMSAR handbook each year, and
sometimes (as in this case) have different mailing addresses for UPS since
they require street addresses and Room/Suite Numbers. Again, thank you
for contacting us regarding this matter.
Sincerely,
PPS
