UCLA Out of State Admissions? Help please :)

Hi,
I am a Michigan resident whose dream school is UCLA. I realize how competitive UCLA is to get into out of state, but was wondering if anyone knew anything about admission statistics for UCLA out of state.

Good timing with your question, being that I don't skim the pre-dent forums too much anymore. Anyways, I am a 2nd yr. dental student at UCLA. Just like you, I am a Michigan resident. UCLA accepts more in-state than out-of-state, but they definitely seem to like Michigan residents, so you're in luck! The incoming class of 2013 has at least 2 Michigan residents, 3 who had attended the University of Michigan. Which university do you attend? PM me if you have any specific questions. But you definitely have a chance if your gpa is decent and your DAT scores are competitive.

Awesome! I attend the University of Michigan as well. I am anticipating probably around a 3.7 GPA when I apply (I really screwed up my first semester). What DAT score do you think I would need? I am going to volunteer at a free dental clinic this year (going into my soph year), and am planning to start research this year as well. Do you have any other recommendations on things to do to boost my application?

You're really planning ahead considering you're about to be a sophomore - nice work! Anyway, I just graduated from U of M in May and will be heading to UCLA in the fall. I decided I wanted to go to UCLA during my sophomore year and once I set my sights on it there was no going back. So stay focused and you'll be able to achieve it! Like Hattrack said I do think that UCLA has a lot of respect for U of M students because I know of at least 3 of us that got accepted there this year (even though the others aren't attending). Hopefully I'll see you around in the fall of 2012! If you need a couch to crash on during an interview 2 years from now hit me up.

But seriously... you had a 4.0 Science GPA and a 24 DAT! You could've gotten into any dental school that you wanted to get into! hahaha could you maybe tell me statistics of some other accepted students from UMich?
