I am pretty sure there was a post about this, but I can't seem to find it...
so I will start one...(blame it on my poor search skill)..

I am almost done with UCLA 2ndary but the problem is I have 4 questions left blank. I know it is not required to answer all but leaving 4 Qs blank does not seem too good.

I am wondering if people have gotten good responses from UCLA (acceptance,interview..) leaving many Qs on secondary left blank.

You won't get that kind of response easily. I'd suggest trying as many as you can. You can suggest why you're leaving them blank and get critiqued that way. Having said that, there's no right or wrong here. People have left blanks and gotten through, but not everyone. It's to your benefit not to leave too many blanks.

I am leaving the leadership, honor, problem, and hardship questions.
For leadership, honor, and hardship I am leaving them blank bcuz there is nothing to write about. I do have some leadership experience but nothing unique, i dont have any honor..award besides making dean's list..hardship..i dont think i had any..
and i am leaving problem blank bcuz if i were to write about one that would be too personal to disclose on application. not that i have no problems but i dont have ones that i corrected ..??..

I left several (3 or 4) blank when I applied. It's better to leave it blank than to try to BS an answer! The adcoms can spot a phony answer a mile away. 🙂

BTW, the "problem" question is one that you shouldn't leave blank.

it's good to know someone got in ....
last thing I want to do is to BS an answer..being a terrible writer myself i think even a 10 year old can tell it's BS..

you should do all of them, except probably the hardship one.

I think the leadership one is pretty important. There is a lot of stuff you can write about. I think you can write about a unique experience in that slot too.

I'm having trouble with the unique leadership one. Should I go for something really important, or something that just sounds different? My most "unique" activity is probably being a children's museum guide in an interactive dinosaur exhibit; it's different, but it wasn't that important to me, and I only did it for a few months.

Alternatively, I could write about being co-president of an organ donor education student organization, which isn't that "different" but it's more "important". Thoughts? My MDapps has more activities listed... I may ask my premed advisor if no one here has advice.

I'd look at it through the lens of UCDavis' supp. which actually says "and how will it make you a good doctor". When they say unique they don't mean that literally. I think they mean unique as in where you've demonstrated the characteristics about yourself you want to portray to become a physician. The problem with presidential leadership is that it usually involves restating the mission of your org and taking credit for other people's work 😛. I suggest you explore whatever you think hits the qualities of a leader. Also, I do wonder if the UCs review the primary very closely. Davis' seems to suggest t hat they don't care and so does UCLA's 😛.

Ha. Okay. I'll especially consider what I bolded 🙂

I'd welcome any other suggestions 🙂

O about the presidential crack. I didn't mean it as it sounded 😛. I just mean those essays tend to come out that way. I'm sure you've poured much more into it, but the president's essays have always been so weak compared to underlings, who describe exactly how they are leaders. (From experience) 😛 Just make sure you delineate your role. 🙂

Hmm. To clarify, I did the usual "presidential" stuff like heading board meetings and checking up on others' progress, but I also organized events (teaching at elementary schools - I also did the teaching, an essay contest for high schoolers, and an informational/fun games for kids booth at a health fair). I think the fact that I set goals that would help the community and helped carry them out is meaningful, but it sounds so ordinary =/ ah well. I'll focus less on the "unique" part and more on the "leader" part.

Well I would talk about organizing events. Experiences like that speak volumes in leadership. You'd be surprised by what is considered unique. 😛 It may seem ordinary to provide something for the community that requires a lot of people to carry out, but if you explore your program and what you're trying to offer and what you get out of it, it actually becomes quite unique.
